A very special St Patrick’s Day, to all our Irish friends☘️ 🇮🇪
We thought it would be fun to share our handy guide to the Water of Life on both sides of the Irish Sea!
🥃 While it’s Uisge beatha in Scottish Gaelic, it’s Uisce beatha in Irish Gaelic.
🥃 There’s no ‘e’ in Scotch whisky, though our Irish (and American) cousins like whiskey with an ‘e’.
🥃 In Scotland we distil our whisky twice (with a few exceptions), while Irish whiskey is predominantly tripled distilled.
🥃 Scotch whisky is made from malted barley. Irish whiskey is made in a very similar way to Scotch but has an extra category: pot still Irish whiskey, made from a mix of malted and unmalted barley.
What we do have in common are two amazing national exports, both of which must be matured for a legal minimum of three years, before they can be called whisky or whiskey!
