Meet the Maker: Sue Bibby

In honour of National Sewing Month, we are pleased to introduce you to one of our lovely makers. Having been a practicing artist exhibiting and selling work throughout the UK since completing her degree in Fashion and Textiles in 1985, Sue works in her home studio in Moseley, Birmingham, producing a range of embroidered items, including one-off textile pieces in varying sizes, cards, brooches and other accessories.

Inspired by birds and wild flowers, vintage book illustrations and domestic life, she uses a combination of free machine and hand embroidery to create her individually worked pieces. She collects scraps of vintage fabrics to fashion unique backgrounds for her embroidery, embedding the stories they tell into her work.

Visit our shop to purchase your very own Sue Bibby piece.

In a world increasingly shaped by Al, there's something special about making with your hands.

From the feel of a material to the skill built through years of practice, traditional craft connects us to creativity, place and one another.

A lovely thought-provoking piece in The Guardian about why handmade skills still matter — and why they may matter more than ever.

New Acquisition: A Curious Cabinet👀

Explore the story of behind one of Court Barn’s most intriguing pieces of furniture. Designed by C.R. Ashbee for his London home in the 1890s, this remarkable cabinet was inspired by the architecture around it and was once a striking ‘peacock blue’. Our new exhibition uncovers its conservation while asking a timeless question: what makes a house feel like a home?

Running from September 26th - November 1st 🎟️
