🏺 Buried Lives: The finds of Broadways flood alleviation scheme

In 2016, work began on the Environment Agency's flood alleviation scheme along Badsey Brook a project to protect hundreds of Broadway homes and businesses from flooding.
Ahead of the works, Worcestershire Archaeology conducted an archaeological dig on the site. As embankments were built and earth was moved, an archive of human history was uncovered, preserved just beneath the surface.

Among the finds? A loom weight a simple but essential tool used to keep even tension across bundles of warp threads, allowing smooth, steady weaving.

It's a small object with a big story proof that Broadway's past is often closer to the surface than you'd think.

The museum building is over 400 years old, and for much of that time it was a innkeeper's house not the inn itself, that was next door in Eadburgha House. It was the place he went home to, rather than the place the coaches pulled into.

It means these walls were domestic first: someone's kitchen, someone's stairs, someone's cold morning on Broadway high street, for four centuries before any of it became a museum.
