It has been a particularly wonderful week at the gallery, with visitors travelling from across the country to spend time with Yoca Muta’s solo exhibition, The Gaze of Fire.
The response to the exhibition, and to the individual works by Yoca san within it, has been deeply moving — prompting moments of genuine emotion from visitors, and also thoughtful, often unexpected conversations. It has been especially wonderful to watch and listen to visitors admire both her remarkable technical ability and artistic brilliance evident throughout the exhibition, and to see the close attention given to the extraordinary detail and craftsmanship within each work.
As a gallerist, there’s something particularly rewarding about seeing an exhibition experienced in this way: slowly, attentively, and with such appreciation for the skill and vision behind the work. Both we and Yoca san are very grateful to everyone who has made the journey to visit, and to those who have taken the time to share their thoughts and responses with us.
The Gaze of Fire continues at the gallery until 5 September.

Part of our current exhibition Yoca Muta: The Gaze of Fire.
We first introduced Muta san’s work to the UK in 2019, and it has been a pleasure to follow the development of her practice ever since. This new exhibition brings together a particularly strong group of works, including this beautiful Mountain Pigeon Vessel Form.
Muta san’s ceramics are immediately recognisable for the extraordinary quality of their painting, but it is the relationship between the painting and the form that makes the work so compelling. Her compositions follow the curves and contours of each vessel, with areas of unpainted surface playing just as important a role as those cloaked in her enamel pigments.
The exhibition includes a significant number of wood-fired pieces adorned with Kutani overglazed enamel painting, made using a restored kiln near her studio in Ishikawa. Here, fire, ash and atmosphere become part of the process, introducing an element of unpredictability into the work.

It’s been a great week here in our beautiful village of Broadway. Here are some images of our current exhibition in room one, with paintings by Kate Sherman, works in wood by Alan Meredith, Ceramic Art by Oriel Zinaburg, Simone Krug Springsguth, Sasha Wardell, and Bronze sculpture by Richard Fox.

A small change to our opening hours
Next Saturday, the gallery will be closed for the day while Broadway hosts its annual car show.
We’re always very happy to celebrate the village and its various festivities, but with the day expected to bring rather more revving engines, exhaust fumes and enthusiastic crowds than our usual gallery visitors, we felt it best to give the artwork — and ourselves — a peaceful day away from the festivities.
The following week we be installing our forthcoming solo exhibition by Yoca Muta ‘The Gaze of Fire’We’ll reopen as usual on Monday 24th August, when we look forward to welcoming you back to our usual beautiful and peaceful surroundings, when the only sound will be one of horse hooves rather than horse power ; )

Our sincere thanks to everyone who joined us on Saturday for the opening of Kate Sherman’s exhibition, Wish You Were Here. It was a pleasure to welcome both familiar and new faces to the gallery for such an enjoyable afternoon.
In the days since, visitors have been taking time to experience the collection as it was intended—slowly and thoughtfully. The quiet sensitivity, gentle beauty and emotional depth of Kate’s paintings have resonated deeply, with each work inviting a moment of contemplation.

Alan Meredith’s work exists at the meeting point of sculpture, architecture, and honouring organic material. Across this new collection of sculptural turned vessels and furniture, the Irish artist continues his deeply intuitive exploration of wood as both medium and collaborator, creating forms that feel simultaneously ancient and distinctly contemporary.
