Calling all Rowland Hilder lovers!
Don’t miss The Language of Landscape in Canterbury.

Original Watercolours and Etchings are on show and available to purchase. You can also see Rowland’s paint box, ink stand and one of his etching plates too.

Rowland Hilder’s influence is felt throughout the exhibition. His iconic winter scenes, defined by dramatic horizons, bare trees, and rhythmic compositions, established a visual shorthand for the English countryside that shaped mid-20th-century landscape painting. Rowland approached his painting with both precision and atmosphere, merging the observational clarity of draughtsmanship with the poetic tone of memory. His work captures a rural world that was rapidly changing in the decades after the war, yet still held deep cultural resonance.

The Language of Landscape also features work by Astrig Akseralian, Susan Mulley and Gordon Rushmer and runs until Sunday 15th March - open every day except Mondays.

The Front Room, The Beaney House of Art and Knowledge, 18 High Street, Canterbury, Kent CT1 2RA

Introducing Jade Taylor - one of four Featured Artists in Divining Nature

Jade Taylor: Working from a garden studio in the heart of the Kent countryside and immersed in the nature that inspires her, Jade’s work responds to the beauty and fragility of the natural world and in particular our native wildlife, habitats and ecosystems. Trained as a textile designer, her love of colour and pattern flows through her practice, where printmaking has long been central. Her delicate works combine acrylic on linen with layers of collaged botanical printmaking and etchings to weave in hidden narratives.

She is Winner of Mammal Illustrator of the Year 2025.

Divining Nature is on show in the Front Room of The Beaney, 18 High Street, Canterbury CT1 2RA and runs until 11th January 2026 (closed Mondays).

Introducing Kit Boyd - one of four Featured Artists in Divining Nature

Kit Boyd works in the British Romantic tradition, following the path of Samuel Palmer and the Neo-romantics of the 1940’s. His pastoral landscapes and dreamscapes offer contemplative spaces away from the distractions of modern life, inspired by the spirit of place and a pantheistic view of our lives intricately entwined with the natural world.

Divining Nature is on show in the Front Room of The Beaney, 18 High Street, Canterbury CT1 2RA and runs until 11th January 2026 (closed Mondays).
