Studio 3 Gallery Studio 3 Gallery, part of the School of Arts at the University of Kent, presents an outstanding programme of art exhibitions and events open to the public.

In addition to enhancing the cultural experience at the University’s Canterbury campus, the Gallery aims to:
•give opportunities to students throughout the University, the School of Arts, and especially in History of Art, to develop their learning, graduate skills and employability, by actively involving them in all aspects of the Gallery’s operation;
•widen access to the arts and higher education

in Kent, through a programme of outreach to schools and colleges; and,
•engage alumni of the School and the wider University, inviting and encouraging them to participate in its activities. Since its opening, Studio 3 Gallery has developed an innovative programme of exhibitions that combines art historical scholarship and cutting-edge contemporary art, working with leading artists like Ana Maria Pacheco, Laure Prouvost, Art & Language, John Blackburn and Paul Coldwell. Our exhibition 'Hair: Textures of Belonging' will close its doors sooner than planned. If you haven't had a chance to see it, please visit the gallery this week. We'll be open 10am - 5pm.

Our invigilators are disinfecting headphones regularly and we ask all visitors to closely follow the NHS and government guidance about the corona-virus.

From Monday 23rd onwards the gallery will be closed until further notice.

Studio Three Gallery is looking for a student to make an audio guide for the upcoming exhibition ‘Hair: Textures of Belonging’. This is a paid opportunity of £100.

The exhibition focuses on the gendered and racial aesthetics of hair. You will be asked to make an audio description of the works and the artists to accompany visitors in the exhibition. This will include recording pre written text that will be provided for you.

Please email your interest by Friday to [email protected] and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

N.b. The audio guide would need to be submitted by the 11th March at the latest, so please do not apply if you will not be able to produce this within the time frame given.

Studio Three Gallery is looking for two gallery assistants

Applicants need to be current students at the University of Kent. Applications from BAME students or women are strongly encouraged.

You will provide administrative, logistical and organisational support to the gallery curator in preparation for our upcoming ‘Hair: Textures of Belonging’ exhibition. This is a paid opportunity. You will be contracted on a time sheet basis and paid minimum or living wage. You will work a maximum of 120 hours over the period 10 February - 8 April 2020.

Your tasks and responsibilities might include:
- Create content for the gallery’s social media
- Coordinate gallery events
- Promote the upcoming exhibition and events
- Update the Studio 3 Gallery blog (using wordpress)
- Proofread exhibition literature
- Help install the exhibition (dates 21 February - 2 March)
- Help de-install the exhibition (dates 4 - 6 April)
- Coordinate the shipping, delivery, and transport of loans
- Make small edits to graphic design in Adobe Indesign, Photoshop or Illustrator

‘Hair: Textures of Belonging’ is a visual arts exhibition featuring (amongst others) Marina Abramovic, Zhu Tian, Sonia Boyce, Yuni Kim Lang, and Sonya Clark. The theme of the exhibition is the gendered and racial aesthetics of hair as signifier of black and gendered identity.

Applicants need to be current students at the University of Kent. Applications from BAME students or women are strongly encouraged.

The application process is online. To apply, you need to upload: (1) a cover letter, (2) a CV and (3) a portfolio. Please save your files with full name in the filename (eg. eleendeprez-cv.pdf or deprezeleen-portfolio.pdf)

1. In your cover letter you should explain your motivation for applying and discuss your specific skills and experience in relation to the tasks and responsibilities outlines above.
2. Your CV should provide details of your current study, work experience, and/or volunteer experience.
3. Your portfolio should include: a sample of writing (this can be an essay you submitted for a module), any evidence you think might support your application (eg. photographs of past projects/exhibitions, graphic design work, social media posts, etc.).

The deadline for application is 5 February 5pm. As part of the selection process you may be called in for an interview on Thursday 6 February (1pm - 5pm). Hiring decisions will be communicated by Monday 10 February.
