What happens when art, nature and our museum collections come together?

Join us on Saturday 7 November for a special afternoon with Artist-in-Residence Sam Parsons as we celebrate his exhibition Field Guide – Future Edition.

Hear Sam in conversation with Curator of Natural History Rachel Jennings about the ideas, research and inspiration behind his work, discover more about the exhibition, and put your own questions to the artist.

Your ticket includes time to explore the museum and exhibition, plus a complimentary drink on arrival.

Nocturnal Adventures is coming to the museum this Autumn half term! 🦔

See our famous animal dioramas and experience them through the eyes of nocturnal wildlife. With special lighting effects creating an immersive day-to-night journey, you'll discover the fascinating creatures that thrive after dark, from hedgehogs and badgers to the majestic tiger.

Perfect for curious explorers of all ages, it's a chance to see the museum in a whole new light.

Open days Friday 23 to Sunday 25 October, Wednesday 28 October to Sunday 1 November
11am–4pm

There’s still time to explore it all before our regular season comes to an end, but not for long 🍂

Open Friday to Sunday and Bank Holidays, 11am - 4pm

October half-term: Open every day from Wednesday 28 October to Sunday 1 November, 11am - 4pm

Final open day of the season: Sunday 1 November

For our final Family Hub Friday for this season we are delving into the fascinating world of nocturnal animals 🦉

Parents, carers and children under 5 are invited to join us on Friday 16 October as we learn about the creatures that come alive after dark. From badgers, hedgehogs and owls to the mighty Asian tiger, we'll be discovering how animals adapt to life at night.

Drop in anytime between 11am and 2pm for a relaxed morning of creative play, stories and hands-on activities inspired by our collections. There's plenty of space to explore the gardens, visit the museum and enjoy some family time together.

Don't forget your Family Hub Card for £1 entry!

Pumpkins and squash grown on site this summer and picked by The Sunshine Project have been used to create a colourful display in the Winter Garden.

BEHIND ZULU BEADWORK | PART 3 🧵 Did you know the earliest evidence of beadwork in southern Africa dates back around 75,000 years?

Marine shells discovered at Blombos Cave in the Western Cape provide some of the earliest evidence of this ancient tradition. From ancient history to the incredible objects in the collection today, there is so much more to discover behind Zulu beadwork.

There are just 12 open days left to visit the Powell-Cotton Museum, Quex House and Quex Gardens during our main 2026 season, with our regular opening hours ending on Sunday 1 November.

Whether you've been meaning to explore the museum galleries, wander through the gardens or take a tour of Quex House, now's the time to plan your visit.

Open days & times:

Friday 16 - Sunday 18 October, 11am-4pm
Friday 23 - Sunday 25 October, 11am - 4pm
Wednesday 28 - Sunday 1 November, 11am-4pm

Don't worry though, we'll be back for selected festive opening dates from 21 November as Christmas arrives at Quex House🎄
