Recently our conservation team were involved in preparing a wonderful brooch discovered by the children at Derbyshire Scout Archaeology 🤩

𝗔𝘀𝗵𝗯𝘆 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝗲𝘂𝗺 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗟𝗶𝘀𝗮 𝗦𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗵'𝘀 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝘅𝗵𝗶𝗯𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗙𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗦𝗮𝘅𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝟭𝟵𝟴𝟬𝘀.
A marvellous collection of over 100 small models (𝘉𝘢𝘳𝘣𝘪𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘒𝘦𝘯 𝘴𝘪𝘻𝘦!) authentically dressed in the fashion of the times.
She has created a marvellous collection of over 100 small models (𝘉𝘢𝘳𝘣𝘪𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘒𝘦𝘯 𝘴𝘪𝘻𝘦!) authentically dressed in the fashion of the times, from Saxon through Mediaeval, Tudor, Stuart, Georgian, Victorian, and Edwardian to the later 20th century.
Each costume has been handsewn by Lisa, and the project has taken over five years to complete.

The Ferrers Community Room at Ashby Museum was packed on Saturday afternoon (17th May), when the 𝗗𝗲𝗿𝗯𝘆𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝘂𝘁𝘀 𝗔𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗲𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽, 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝘄𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗼-𝗦𝗮𝘅𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝗲𝘂𝗺 𝗼𝗻 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴-𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺 𝗹𝗼𝗮𝗻. Found by two young girl scouts at Willesley campsite during their involvement in an archaeological dig, it has been featured on ITV Central News. Ashby Museum is honoured to be the showcase for such an important find.

Fabulous afternoon with Derbyshire Scout Archaeology at Ashby de la Zouch Museum seeing the Anglo Saxon brooch that was found on a Scout dig, going into it's new home.
The volunteer team at Ashby would love to see any Scouts who want to see the brooch or many of the other things they have in the museum.

2025 marks the 𝟴𝟬𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗩𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲 (𝗩𝗘) 𝗗𝗮𝘆, a significant moment in history when peace was restored to Europe, bringing an end to the devastating conflict of World War II.

The Second World War generation changed the course of history and commenced the rebuilding of an exhausted country in the post-war years. These men and women defended the freedoms we enjoy today.

𝗪𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲.

A guided walk through Ashby’s Civil War history will be held at Saturday, 31 May at 11am. The walk will be guided by DofE Candidate, Ryder and will be free with donations welcomed. Advance booking is recommended as space is limited. Please ring or call the museum to book.
