Newhaven Museum is pleased to announce the release of a new booklet produced to accompany our William Catt, Tide Mills and East Beach exhibition. Drawing on photographs, documents and personal recollections held in our collections, the booklet offers a deeper look at the people, industry and shoreline that shaped Tide Mills and the wider East Beach.

Inside, readers will find a closer look at William Catt, his work, and his influence on the mill and the surrounding community, contextual notes on the wider East Beach landscape, including the Marconi radio mast, seaplane station, and the Marine hospital.

The booklet is designed to deepen your visit and provide a lasting record of this remarkable part of Newhaven’s heritage.

Copies are available from the museum for £10, with all proceeds supporting our ongoing work to preserve local heritage.

We aren’t usually open on Sundays, but as the Dieppe Raid Memorial Service is being held this Sunday (9th) we have created an exhibition about the raid and the relationships between the Canadian soldiers and local people. Entry to the museum will be free this Sunday.

Between 11am and 2pm we will be joined by Frankie and friends in full battle dress. Why not ask him what it was like to be a commando during the raid.

The Dieppe Raid Memorial Service will take place on Memorial Green, South Way, Newhaven at 3pm

We are delighted to host Peacehaven’s Hidden Treasures, an exhibition of work by Hilary Musk inspired by Peacehaven’s landscapes, seascapes, and fossils.

To complement the artwork, we have curated an exhibition on the early history of Peacehaven. We are also pleased to show some of Sarah Elizabeth Mann’s Sea and Sky photography.

The exhibition runs until 1st July. We are open Tuesdays, Wednesday, Fridays and Saturdays 11am-4pm.

Are we still enjoying what our ancestors ate in the morning in inns and alehouses? What were they having in 1600? Join us at the Hillcrest Centre on Tuesday to find out about the different types of drinking establishments from 1550 to 1750. We will hear the reactions from travellers (not always good!) and local customers to what was on offer, together with the lifestyles of the innkeepers, both male and female.

Members free.

Guests welcome: Entrance £5.00
