While things definitely didn't go as planned for the , we still had a great time on Saturday with lots of visitors coming to see the stalls.
We would like to give a massive round of applause to as a whole, what an amazing community, opening up the school, Park House and Market Hall to help those in need!
Although it was a stressful time for all involved, we're very proud to be part of such an amazing community!

In preparation for Halloween tomorrow, here’s a list of signifiant dates around around this time of year 🎃

We'd like to say a huge thank you to The Director of Tallow Tales for spending Friday at the museum telling Frightening Folklore tales to our bravest visitors!

It was a great day and everybody loved the stories. It was great to see visitors having conversations afterwards about folklore and local tales after the storytelling.

With today being my last day, I would just like to say a massive thank you for all the team at the Hawkshead Grammar School Museum for a fantastic season and allowing me to be part of it.

And thank you to all the visitors that have listened to me rambling on about history and putting up with my Yorkshire accent.

I wish you all well for the future,

Cheers!

Halloween is approaching, so here’s a fun vegetable themed fact!

In the 19th century, people carved scary faces into turnips to scare the spirits of the dead away from their homes.
Today this tradition has evolved, and people now carve pumpkins (which are much easier to carve!)

What's the early version of a safe? A municipal chest!
The wood is around 1000 years old and features 3 locks, which required the headmaster and two of the governors to be together to unlock it. It was used to store collected rents and statutes.
You'll notice it's unlike the rest of the surfaces, this box lacks carvings since it was kept in the Headmasters house, away from the boys.

The boys were expected to attend Church every Sunday, at this school.
