ANA MENDIETA. FILM PROGRAMME

Explore Ana Mendieta’s film and video work from the 1970s. Introduced by Raquel Cecilia Mendieta, the programme explores two key themes in Mendieta’s practice.

Screenings of Source (1975), Door Piece (1973) and Silueta del Laberinto (1974) emphasise her interest in the body, and its absence.

The elemental qualities of earth, fire, wind and water are made visible through screenings of Flower Person, Flower Body (1975), Burial Pyramid (1974), Weather Balloon, Feathered Balloon (1974), Untitled: Silueta Series (1978) and Untitled: Silueta Series (1979)

With Raquel Cecilia Mendieta (the Estate of Ana Mendieta) and Elsa Collinson (Assistant Curator, International Art), followed by audience Q+A.

Do not miss it!

The Fabric Decides, a phrase attributed to Cristóbal Balenciaga, deeply resonates with Edith Dekyndt’s work: the idea that fabric has its own qualities, limitations, memory and possibilities and these elements determine the form it takes.

In this new exhibition, “Edith Dekyndt x Cristóbal Balenciaga. The Fabric Decides,” at bozar, the work of the artist enters into dialogue with the rarely seen archives of the fashion designer, examining the fundamental qualities and the language of materials to reveal an unexpected resonance between contemporary art and haute couture.

“Edith Dekyndt x Cristóbal Balenciaga” opens today and continues through 31 January 2027.

“I’ve always been interested in what is fragile in something that is powerful and monumental.

It’s really an experiment: what are the questions have not been answered- what can I push further?” - An-My Lê

Premiering tomorrow on Art21 → “An-My Lê: Photographing the Night Sky”

Documenting former sites of battle, military training exercises, and Vietnam War reenactments, An-My Lê’s photography considers how conflict lingers in the physical environment and how media shapes our perception of it.

Watch the full film this Wednesday, 14 October on art21.org and on youtube.

‘Photography arrests and elongates something that is immediately past. My motivation has to do with the question, how do we live with history?’ There is little in the pictures to reveal when and where they were taken – but as you stand in front of them, there is a sense of time sifting, fragile and transient,” Thomas Struth, Wallpaper Magazine, 2022.

Marian Goodman Gallery would like to wish Thomas Struth a very happy birthday today! To commemorate the occasion, we look back in time to one of his streetscapes of New York.

Struth has developed his individual photographic practice, often penetrating places of the human imagination in order to scrutinize the landscape of invention, technology, and beyond. Celebrated for his diverse body of work, Struth continues to advance his vocabulary with each new series, while maintaining the same principles core to his practice.

For more than 50 years, Tony Cragg has transformed a dynamic range of materials to create a vast range of singular, sculptural entities. While crisscrossing the lines between realism and abstraction he takes inspiration from both natural and man-made forms, thereby continually reimagining and drawing out the relationship between man and Nature.

Delve into a selection of these forms at Cragg’s solo exhibition here at , now through 24 October 2026.

Marian Goodman Gallery would like to wish Steve MᶜQueen a very happy birthday today!

MᶜQueen has spent more than 30 years making work that holds what cannot be looked away from—history, violence, joy, grief, witness. 66–76–26 at marks a significant turn: there is no image here. Only two voices, separated by a decade, meeting in a darkened room.

Both are recordings of “Wild is the Wind,” a song written for the 1957 film of the same name and taken to another register entirely by Nina Simone in 1966 and David Bowie in 1976. MᶜQueen has returned to these performances, drawn to what he calls the pure yearning in them—the want, the need, the must. Stripped of their instrumentation and placed at opposite ends of the gallery, the two voices form a duet neither artist ever performed.

66–76–26 opens today and continues through 21 February 2027.

Spanning more than five decades of her career, “Annette Messager: Tragikomedie” at Kunsthalle Praha moves from intimate pieces on paper to expansive installations, ending with the monumental “Casino,” seen here on the first slide, which won the Golden Lion at the 2005 Venice Biennale.

In her work Messager has explored systems of control, classification, and gender stereotypes—often with humor and subtle subversion. Working with everyday materials such as fabric, toys, photographs, and stuffed animals, her art transforms the ordinary into fragile monuments to memory, identity, and desire. Whether in expansive installations or intimate works on paper, she tells stories that question how we represent the body, gender, and emotional experience.

“Tragikomedie” opens today and runs through 28 February 2027.

“Bruce Nauman: Identical” at Nasher Sculpture Center features a group of polyurethane, silicone rubber, and plaster-cast animal forms fabricated from elements the artist had in his New Mexico studio, as well as a selection of related silverpoint and goldpoint still life drawings.

Nauman assembled the sculptures from polyurethane foam taxidermy molds of coyotes and foxes, wild animals common to the New Mexico ranchland where the artist has lived and worked since the 1980s. The taxidermy molds are commercially manufactured forms used by taxidermists to provide an interior body for skins, furs, and the deceased animal.

In “Identical” Nauman enlivens the forms through composition and replication, casting similar animal parts in plaster and arranging the casts into ordered compositions that mimic their foam counterparts.

“Identical” continues through 21 March 2027.
