This weekend for ‘Double Takes: Danses interdites’, a part of the Le Nouveau Printemps program in Toulouse, France, Joachim Koester’s work ‘Tarantism’ (2007).
Le Nouveau Printemps, Loop Barcelona and KADIST present a joint programme of films from the KADIST video and film collection, bringing together moving images, sound and embodied histories. This event is part of the 2026 edition of Nouveau Printemps conceived by Rossy de Palma, one of whose programs is dedicated to “forbidden dances”—forms of dance censored or suppressed for religious, political, or social reasons, yet which persist through the gestures of artists engaged in resistance, remembrance, and celebration.
Across these works, dance appears as a whispered language: a choreography of survival, an underground transmission of culture, a ritual gesture that refuses disappearance. The selection of works presented considers the body as a living, ever-changing archive, and dance as a form of knowledge that is transmitted through rhythm, voice, breath, and the shared spaces—urban, rural, spiritual, and digital—that frame our gestures.
The programme, curated by Filipa Ramos, is presented during the opening weekend of Le Nouveau Printemps in May 2026, before traveling to Barcelona as part of Loop Festival in November 2026, where it resonates within the city’s broader landscape of artists’ cinema.
