SETAREH is pleased to present 𝘠𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘥𝘢𝘺, a group exhibition of works by Aziza, Erin Mommsen, Jordan Rubio, Julien Heintz, Maia Twombly, Nick Jensen, Nicholas Aliberti, Sage Schachter and Zachary Merle.

The exhibition’s title names something immediately familiar yet fundamentally inaccessible: a moment close enough to remember, but already beyond reach. The works in this exhibition inhabit the distance between experience and recollection, tracing what survives in the space between them.

𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘭𝘦𝘦𝘱𝘸𝘢𝘭𝘬𝘦𝘳 Harry Hugo Little 10.09.2026 - 10.10.2026

Harry Hugo Little’s figures emerge through a soft, almost blurred application of oil on wood, where gentle brushwork and layered tones allow the bodies to dissolve into their surroundings. The interplay of light and shadow draws on the chiaroscuro of Baroque painting, using dramatic illumination to heighten the emotional presence of the figures. This tension between what is revealed and what remains obscured creates an atmosphere of intimacy and uncertainty, while the contemporary subjects are placed within a visual language rooted in art-historical tradition.

𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘭𝘦𝘦𝘱𝘸𝘢𝘭𝘬𝘦𝘳 Harry Hugo Little 10.09.2026 - 10.10.2026

The snake occupies a recurring place within the iconography of 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘭𝘦𝘦𝘱𝘸𝘢𝘭𝘬𝘦𝘳, drawing on its complex symbolism across biblical narratives and art history, where it has been associated with temptation, danger, mortality, and transformation. Little brings this traditional imagery into a contemporary context, combining the visual language of Baroque painting with the intimacy and ambiguity of his own subjects. Painted in oil on wood, the work uses soft, layered glazes and dramatic contrasts of light and shadow to create a heightened, almost dreamlike atmosphere. By placing a recognisable contemporary body alongside a centuries-old symbol, Little creates a dialogue between art-historical tradition and the present, reflecting the exhibition’s broader meditation on grief, mortality, and the cycles of loss and renewal.

‘The Sleepwalker‘ is more like a personification of mourning than a represention of an archetype or alter ego —The death of a loved one is a drastic change in reality, so intense that the world starts to feel unreal. From anatomical studies on loose pages to biblical murals, artists have repeatedly turned to art to document, unravel, and find meaning through hard times. As life is lived, humanity always comes back to revisit what makes us human, what stories we can learn from, and the ideas that perservere even after death.

Emerging from a haze of darkness, the figure in 𝘚𝘭𝘰𝘸𝘥𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 reflects the blurred boundary between memory and reality that accompanies grief. Little’s contemporary imagery draws on the visual language of the Old Masters, particularly the dramatic chiaroscuro and theatrical lighting characteristic of Baroque painting. Working on wood through layers of paint and glazing, the artist creates a softened, almost dreamlike image in which the figure appears to both emerge and recede from the darkness. The work speaks to the exhibition’s wider exploration of loss, remembrance, mortality, and the possibility of renewal.

This collection of paintings marks a new period of hope for Little, who writes “𝘈𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘶𝘯 𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘯𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘥𝘪𝘦𝘴, 𝘐 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘯𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘭𝘺 𝘴𝘦𝘦 𝘵𝘰𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘰𝘸, 𝘢 𝘥𝘢𝘺 𝘐 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘐 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩. 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘭𝘦𝘦𝘱𝘸𝘢𝘭𝘬𝘦𝘳 𝘸𝘢𝘵𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘰𝘳𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘯𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵. 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘭𝘦𝘦𝘱𝘸𝘢𝘭𝘬𝘦𝘳 𝘸𝘢𝘪𝘵𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘮𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘰𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘰𝘸“. Little‘s words of renewal rise alongside notes of despair, a pattern that is reflected in the exhibited works. In a flower blooming and wilting and a snake shedding old skin, Harry Hugo Little chooses powerful images to convey that life is bound by cycles. Drawing also on rich religious iconography, the works oscillate between mourning and acceptance, capturing the emotional complexity of grief.

Harry Hugo Little begins with slabs of wood that tactically function like blank slates, each piece as unique as the memories that are tied to each work. Anonymised by darkness, mysterious individuals in these paintings provoke fear and fascination as we trespass on their realm. Scenes that swell with the possibility of violence are glazed with a soft focus. Bodies writhe mid-brawl, bathed in theatrical lighting reminiscent of Baroque paintings.
