Galerie Haas at Frieze Masters 2026

Coming up this month: we’re heading to Frieze Masters in London, 14–18 October

This year’s presentation turns to one of art history’s most enduring subjects: the human figure. Bringing together Caillebotte, Modersohn-Becker, Picabia, Dubuffet, Fautrier, Freud, Auerbach and more, the works are placed in dialogue rather than chronology, tracing how each artist returned to the human figure as a site of observation, experimentation and reinvention.

Light. Time. Space. Chance. For Jakob Mattner, these have always been the same question, asked again and again over five decades.

Deep time, held still in a single image. Fern leaves pressed onto shellac-soaked paper, becoming fossils of a kind: traces of the first plants that ever turned sunlight into life. Panes of glass, cut to bend light.

„Mattner’s work is a way of thinking, made visible,“ writes Rudolf Zwirner, gallerist and art curator, in Jakob Mattner: Entropy and Hope.

Through Time is on view at Galerie Haas Zürich until 24 October.

The title sounds like a retrospective. It isn’t. It’s a journey back to the beginning:
«Let there be light. And there was light.» (Gen 1:3)

For more than five decades, light has been the constant in Jakob Mattner’s work: drawings, paintings and sculptures tracing the passage between light and darkness, the visible and the invisible. The works gathered here take light as a starting point for thinking about origins: of life, of the natural world, of our own place in the cosmos.

They ask only that you stand still in front of them without philosophical pathos. Just a quietness that, given time, moves you.

Opening today, Thursday 17 September, 11 am – 9 pm, as part of the Zurich 1 season opening. Galleries across the city open late. Come by.

This summer, Galerie Haas Zurich brings together paintings, sculptures and works on paper from its collection, once again delivering a multifaceted presentation of different artistic periods and practices.

Last chance to experience Healing the Tree, Sandra Vásquez de la Horra’s exhibition of wax-covered drawings exploring the connections between humanity, ancestry, and the living world.

At the center of the exhibition is Botánica de la Evolución, an ongoing body of work the artist began in 1997, imagining every soul as a seed and humanity as emerging from trees rather than standing apart from nature.
