Artist Spotlight: Alexandra Tytarenko

Meet Alexandra Tytarenko, who has been a sculptor for over 20 years. Her love for art began in her youth, growing up in Ukraine, where she was inspired by the beauty of nature and the world around her.

The passion and drive behind Alexandra’s sculptures is the expression of human emotion through aesthetic form, often showing her subjects engaged in artistic expression through music or dance. Her work focuses on portraits and figures, using a variety of mediums including stone, resin, plaster, and concrete-based materials.

Artist Spotlight: Terry Schaub

Meet Terry Schaub, a stone sculptor who finds the feel of the rock taking shape in his hands to be spiritual, “an experience that transcends time.” When he polishes a piece, the rock shows him its depth: in return for his time, he gets to experience the range of colours stored inside.

Terry loves the deep, rich blacks, browns, and greens of soapstone and the translucent white and pink of alabaster. Each piece is special to him, something he has put part of himself into. As Terry puts it, “In creating it I become greater than I was. In a small way I become immortal.”

Artist Spotlight: Maria Saracino

Meet Maria Saracino, whose work is deeply influenced by her personal experiences, her travels, and those fleeting moments that evoke nostalgic memories. Working in polymer clay and textiles, she strives to capture these moments in time.

Maria describes her art as both whimsical and realistic, “never meant to be taken too seriously but instead to bring joy, evoke fun, and make people smile.”

Artist Spotlight: Helen Rogers

Meet Helen Rogers, whose art is inspired by the colourful mosaic sculptures of Niki de Saint Phalle and Antoni GaudĂ. Helen loves bold, vibrant colours, and her style ranges from geometric abstract to whimsical realism.

She works spontaneously, with no preconceived idea or formal drawings. Her sculptures emerge from sessions of playing with a variety of materials, and the medium she eventually uses is “whatever works.” As Helen puts it, the spontaneous nature of the process makes the final work “as much of a surprise to me as to the viewer.”
