Oshawa Museum

Oshawa Museum Open year round and located in Lakeview Park, the Oshawa Museum offers events that engage, educate,

The Oshawa Museum (OM) preserves and promotes awareness and appreciation of Oshawa’s history for the education, enrichment and enjoyment of a diverse audience. As the only community museum in Oshawa we take great pride in showcasing the history of our city from the earliest First Nation occupation to the end of WWII. The OM is administered by the Oshawa Historical Society, a not for profit charita

ble institution, as an external agency of the City of Oshawa. We work in partnership with many community cultural organizations including Heritage Oshawa which is the Municipal Heritage Committee, comprised of Council appointed volunteers. Heritage Oshawa advises City Council on properties of cultural heritage value which are worthy of designation.

Curator’s Pick: Top Dog!
So Fetch! Dogs in the Oshawa Museum Collection is currently on display in Robinson House. We asked Melissa, Oshawa Museum Curator, which photo from the archival collection was her favourite.
Melissa: I like this image (A996.20.70) because this dog appears throughout the Lowry collection. He might have been someone’s dog who lived in Lakeview Park. I’m also a cat lover, so the fact that they are hanging out on the steps of the Jubilee Pavilion makes this image “Top Dog” in my books!

Student Musings – Saki

By Saki, co-op student Hello again! As my final semester of high school wraps up, I unfortunately have to say goodbye to my co-op placement here at the Oshawa Museum. It has been such a joy to experience Oshawa’s history with such a marvelous, cheerful, and endlessly kind community down at the Oshawa Museum. I’ve done a lot of interesting things, and I would 100% recommend to any students who have an interest in history and who are considering a co-op to investigate the museum more as a potential placement....
