Have we made this joke before? Anyways...

Our 1912 Rolls-Royce "Ladybird" and our 1914 McLaughlin Truck are going out for a show, which can only mean one thing: moving day!

Anyone who has been to our museum knows that we don't have much space to work with, so moving some of these massive cars involves finesse, patience, and a LOT of manpower. Here's just a small highlight reel of what we've got to do to get these cars show-ready. Can you believe it only took us 4 and a half hours?

AUTOMOTIVE SLEUTHING IN PROGRESS:
Do *you* recognize this car? Did you perhaps see it at the 2001 Detroit Auto Show? If so, help!

This morning a community member gave us a call telling us he'd found this vehicle at an estate sale. It's the 1989 OPTO-1, a one-off electric car made in Manitoba with the assistance of a now-defunct German chemical engineering company that featured an incredibly advanced fibre-optic control system. It was a prototype of a series of 23 cars (and possibly one pickup truck) named OPTO Canova, all built before 2003, when the company went bankrupt. Until this morning, we'd never heard of it.

That's about the sum total of the information we have right now, though we're working with two former contractors of the company who we've found through Reddit to dig up more information. If you know anything, please help us solve this Canadian automotive history mystery!

Kick off your long weekend this Saturday with a 90-minute walking tour of downtown Oshawa's historic automotive sites. Oshawa has been home to the McLaughlin Carriage Company, McLaughlin Motor Car Company, and General Motors of Canada.

Our expert guide will bring the people and places that made Oshawa “Canada’s Motor City” to life. Look forward to discovering downtown Oshawa's businesses, history, and public art along the way.

The tour will conclude at the Canadian Automotive Museum with a tour of the main gallery including the vehicles produced in our Motor City.
