When telling the history of Canada's automotive industry we often think of cars, factories, and technological innovation. The history of the automotive industry is so much more than that, however. It is a story of people: the workers, families, and organizers whose experiences helped shape our community.

Throughout the late 20th century, Canadian labour unions played an important role, increasingly advocating for workplace equality and protections for LGBTQ+ workers. This work helped to advance conversations about inclusion and human rights both within workplaces and beyond them. These efforts form part of a larger story of social change in Canada, highlighting how communities change and how rights expand over time.

History is enriched by the many voices, experiences, and stories that have shaped our community. We acknowledge how many of these voices have been excluded over time, and that there is work to be done. Pride Month is an opportunity to recognize the contributions of LGBTQ+ Canadians and to reflect on the ongoing work to preserve a more complete understanding of our shared past.

Happy Pride Month from the CAM. 🌈
