Crumbs on the rug, a tea stain on the coffee table, a forgotten scarf... Come discover works that pierce the intimate space and reveal the connections between bodies and communities, memory and living spaces, as well as between ancestral heritage and urban regeneration.

Des miettes sur le tapis, une tache de thé sur la table basse, une écharpe oubliée... Venez découvrir des propositions qui transpercent l’espace intime et révèlent les liens entre corps et communauté, mémoire et habitats, ainsi qu’entre ancestralité et renouvellement urbain.

articule has operated as an open-access artist-run centre since 1979, when young artists rallied around bilingualism, collaboration, and participatory management to create a multidisciplinary venue for research and experimentation outside established institutions. Born from Montreal’s parallel gallery network movement, the collective rented space on de la Montagne Street and shared programming responsibilities, eventually incorporating as a nonprofit in 1980 and offering many emerging artists their first professional exhibition opportunities while giving the public access to internationally renowned work.

Sineh-be-Sineh : Réinventer les traditions orales est un atelier pratique bilingue dans lequel Nagmeh Sharifi invite les participant·es à explorer comment la mémoire, le récit oral et le patrimoine culturel peuvent être préservés et réinventés grâce à des outils numériques accessibles. Dans cet atelier, Sharifi guide les participant·es à se souvenir, à rechercher ou à réfléchir à un conte populaire, un mythe ou une histoire familiale oralement transmise, en particulier par les aînés.

A digital storytelling workshop using Adobe Fresco - all necessary equipment provided.

Sineh-be-Sineh: Reimagining Oral Traditions is a hands-on, bilingual workshop in which Nagmeh Sharifi invites participants to explore how memory, oral storytelling, and cultural heritage can be preserved and reimagined through accessible digital tools. In this workshop, Sharifi guides participants to recall, research, or reflect on a family folktale, myth, or story passed down through oral tradition—particularly those carried by elders.

Montréal Monochrome XI
Communiqué public

L'édition 2026 de Montréal Monochrome, initialement prévue du 20 au 22 mai 2026, sera reportée à l'automne. Les nouvelles dates prévues pour le festival sont du 2 au 6 septembre 2026.

Après délibération et discussion avec le Comité Fabuleux (anti-oppression), nous avons conclu que le report s’aligne sur le calendrier de nos financements externes et sur la capacité de travail de notre équipe. La décision de reporter le festival donne au personnel et aux membres plus de temps pour préparer un événement enrichissant et créatif, et nous permet d’utiliser les fonds accordés par la Fondation Canadienne des relations raciales et Patrimoine canadien.

Nous avons hâte de participer aux échanges prévus cet automne, qui visent à créer de nouveaux réseaux de solidarité durables entre les professionnels des arts issus des communautés BIPOC à travers le pays, afin de favoriser le débat et la prise de conscience sur le racisme systémique dans le milieu artistique

Montreal Monochrome XI
Public Announcement

The 2026 Edition of Montreal Monochrome originally scheduled for May 20-22 of 2026 will be moved to the Fall. The new anticipated dates for the festival are Sept. 2-6, 2026. 

After deliberation and discussion with the Fabulous Committee (anti-oppression), we have concluded that shifting Monochrome aligns with our external funding timeline and our team's work capacity. The decision to postpone the festival gives both staff and members more time to prepare a nourishing and generative event and allows us to utilize funding granted from both Race Relations Canada and Heritage Canada. 

We are looking forward to the conversations this Fall that hope to build new, long-lasting solidarity networks among BIPOC arts workers across the country, promoting discussion and awareness of systemic racism in the arts milieu
