On June 13th, the community came together to celebrate the Medway Valley 🌳

This year’s festival embraced the theme “Rooted in History: Celebrating Our Community, Forest & River.”

We welcomed over 400 visitors to the museum for an immersive day of cultural & environmental programming, where they learned about the land and its cultural heritage. From pollinators to pottery, and living history to wildlife conservation, the festival mixed science and culture with plenty of hands-on experiences!

We're grateful for our partners who helped make this festival possible! Thank you to our co-host Upper Thames River Conservation Authority. To all our wonderful community partners, the performers, supporters, volunteers, and vendors- thank you for helping make the event such a success!

A special thank you to Domino's Pizza for their donation of pizza for our volunteers & to Robert & Tracey's No Frills for the donation of a gift card!

Stay tuned for more pictures from the event 📸

Did you know? June is Seniors Month in Ontario and we're celebrating Lifelong Learner's all month long!

This year's theme, "Ontario Seniors- Let's Get Moving" promotes wellness, social engagement, and education for seniors and older adults!

Last year, we launched Lifelong Learners, a new adult education series at the MOA designed to spark curiosity, creativity, and connection.

By joining, Lifelong Learner participants embark on a journey of continuous discovery, enhancing their knowledge and appreciation of the rich archaeological history of Ontario.

From hands-on workshops to on-site visits, we’ve been putting history in the hands of lifelong learners and inspiring them to discover, learn, and create!

📅Don't miss out on some upcoming events for Lifelong Learners at the MOA

Indigenous Peoples have been a part of Medway Valley for thousands of years.
The area where the Museum of Ontario Archaeology now stands is the site of a 500-year-old village, once home to over 1000 Indigenous farmers. Their knowledge and stewardship shaped this place long before the arrival of settlers.

In the 18th and 19th centuries, Europeans settled in the region. By the mid-20th century, parts of the valley were no longer being used and began to return to a more natural state.

Today, the valley is recognized as an Environmental Significant Area (ESA) — but it remains part of a living cultural landscape.

Next time you walk the trails, take a moment to reflect on the generations who have known, cared for, and walked this land before you.

Learn more about the valley’s rich history and heritage at the Medway Heritage Festival 🌿
