Museum of Ontario Archaeology History in your hands. The Museum's on-site and online galleries display a collection of Ontario’s archaeological discoveries.

The Museum of Ontario Archaeology features a museum, park grounds, and the Lawson archaeological site - an ancient Indigenous village settlement dating to ca 1500 AD. The Museum offers educational programs, events and day camps that all contribute to the Museum's aim of encouraging visitors to learn about archaeology and the many peoples and cultures that have shaped the rich heritage of Ontario and Canada.

The MOA created Lifelong Learners, a dynamic program specially designed for mature 55+ audiences, to promote hands-on learning, curiosity, creativity, and connection.

Through on-site tours, special events, workshops, and outreach we have been encouraging wellness, providing opportunities for social engagement, and lifelong learning for seniors and older adults!

MOA Summer Recap Part II ☀️

As summer winds down, we're taking time to reflect on the contributions of our seasonal staff members, who consistently brought so much energy, passion, and expertise to every corner of the museum. We were thrilled to welcome back some familiar faces and new faces to our seasonal team to lead camp activities, welcome visitors at the front desk, provide guided tours, deliver outreach programs, plan events and assist with collections work!

Each and every team member played a vital role in creating memorable experiences for each guest who entered the museum.

A sincere thank you to our outstanding summer staff, interns, co-op students, and volunteers: Maija, Laura, Hoshin, Connor, Ciel, Lavinnia, Dana, Leah, Caitlyn, Allison, Erika, Emily, Stavroula, Brienna, Aneya and Noah. Your dedication, professionalism, and passion have made this summer truly special - you will all be missed!

We're sincerely grateful to the federal Young Canada Works and Canada Summer Jobs programs for their generous support in funding most of these positions. Additional support came from the Ontario Summer Employment Opportunities program, which funded one summer placement, and the City of London's Multi-Year Grant, which helped offset the employment costs of two placements.

Together, these partnerships allow us to provide meaningful training and mentorship opportunities for emerging professionals while maintaining the exceptional programming and visitor experiences our community expects and deserves.

2026 has proven to be another wonderful summer at the Museum of Ontario Archaeology! This is part 1 of our Summer Recap ☀️

Our six-week Summer Day Camp welcomed over 130 campers to join our "field crew". Through hands-on archaeological techniques, exploring the Medway Valley, and traditional heritage crafts, campers uncovered the deep-rooted legacy of the land we share. 

We introduced Craft and Culture Saturdays which invited visitors to join us for a new hands-on craft or activity each Saturday. Visitors made clay impressions and bird feeders and learned how to make baskets and do origami! 

And we hosted a cyanotype workshop as part of our Lifelong Learners programs & the Medway By Moonlight: Bats, Box-building and Guided Night Hike!

To everyone who visited us this summer or plan to visit before the end of summer—whether you traveled from near or far, joined us for an event or one of our special programs, or simply stopped by to explore—thank you for being part of our community and supporting the important work we do!

While we'll miss our incredible summer staff, those warm days, and all the wonderful programs we enjoyed together these past few months, we're excited about everything we have planned for fall!

Join us on September 28th from 6 PM to 8:30 PM at the Museum of Ontario Archaeology for an evening of reflection, remembrance, learning and community.

We are honoured to welcome Indigenous elders, a residential school Survivor, and the dancers of the Sweet Labour Art Collective for this deeply moving and meaningful gathering.

The evening’s program includes:
Opening: Elder Mary Lou Smoke
Presentation & Story Sharing: Residential School Survivor Cheryl Riley accompanied by her daughters for a jingle dress dance Ashley & Sarah Riley
Performance: will lead a shared embodied experience weaving together movement, film, sound, sensory practice, and collective reflection

We invite you to stand alongside us as we honour all Indigenous residential and day school Survivors, their families, and all those who continue to advocate for justice, truth, accountability, and reconciliation.

Marvin, is our new mascot at the museum!

His favourite thing to do is explore the museum and learn more about the friends he used to live with, and he encourages you to do the same! Marvin is excited to show you around the museum and take you along as he highlights some of his favourite parts of the exhibits, upcoming events & programs, and more!

On August 19th, the community joined us at the MOA to learn more about nocturnal wildlife during Medway by Moonlight: Bats, Box-building and Guided Night Hike 🦇

Participants gathered around the campfire and had the opportunity to build bat boxes that will be placed in designated areas in our community and took a guided hike of the Medway.

Thank you for everyone who joined us! We hope you were able to learn more about bats and how to help make London a certified bat-friendly city!

A huge thank you to our friends at Canadian Wildlife Federation / Fédération canadienne de la faune for joining us to teach participants about bats and helping us with the guided hike!

And just like that, 2026 Summer Day Camp is over!

Campers had an unbe-leaf-able time learning about modern conservation in the Medway Valley during week 6 of camp.

Campers designed projects to protect Ontario’s cultural and natural heritage for years to come. Plus we made insect homes, painted pottery, made bird kites, and spent plenty of time out in the Medway Valley!

By the end of the week, we had a new group of Green Guardians!

Thank you to all campers who joined us over the past 6 weeks! We hope you all had fun and were able to learn more about archaeology, history, heritage, and the environment ☀️
