In our final artist talk of the summer, we welcomed artist Anahi Gonzalez (), who showed our campers the magic of thinking inside the box! 📦💭

As part of our 'Room to Roar!' theme, campers created miniature dioramas of their favourite spaces, real or imagined, exploring how scale can transform architecture and installations. Inspired by Zinnia Naqvi’s 𝘏𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵-𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘦𝘥 𝘉𝘰𝘹, they also created their own storytelling boxes filled with memories, things they love, and imaginary worlds.

Anahi’s visit showed campers how something as simple as a box can become a space for imagination and creative expression. Thank you for visiting, Anahi! 💙

Get a peek behind the curtain of 𝘔𝘖𝘛𝘏𝘌𝘙𝘎𝘙𝘖𝘜𝘕𝘋 with a curator-led tour!

Created by artist Dominique Rey in collaboration with her children Madeleine and Auguste, 𝘔𝘖𝘛𝘏𝘌𝘙𝘎𝘙𝘖𝘜𝘕𝘋 explores ideas of motherhood, identity, care, and the creative connections that shape everyday life. The exhibition invites visitors into a deeply personal world where ordinary moments become powerful expressions of memory, belonging, and transformation.

🐾 It's , and we're spotlighting 𝘋𝘰𝘨, 𝘉𝘰𝘺, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘚𝘵. 𝘑𝘰𝘩𝘯 𝘙𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳, painted in 1958 by one of Canada’s most prominent artists, Alex Colville.

The work creates a scene that feels both familiar and, through its remarkable level of detail, strangely otherworldly—a quality characteristic of Colville's distinctive approach to realism.

Did you notice that Colville put "dog" first in the title? Rather than presenting the dog as the boy's possession, Colville invites us to see them as companions, experiencing the landscape side by side. It's a small choice that adds another layer to this quiet, thoughtful work and the ways it reflects our connections with the animals around us.

During our Community Corn Roast, drop-in to the Studio for a special all-ages embroidery activity led by artist Amanda McCavour, inspired by her 𝘋𝘰𝘶𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘚𝘩𝘢𝘥𝘰𝘸 installation. 🧵

Learn the basics of embroidery directly from the artist and experiment with drawing, stitching, and thread embellishment. Then, create your own embroidered corn tassel to wear or decorate a bag or jacket.

No previous experience is required for this workshop; all materials are provided. Come make, stitch, and celebrate with us!

“Write all of your ideas down.” ✏️💭

This week, our campers had the chance to learn from local cartoonist, zinemaker and illustrator Sammy Orlowski.

As part of this week’s Illustration and Cartooning Camp, and inspired by London Free Press cartoonist Merle “Ting” Tingley and his character Luke Worm (featured in our exhibition 𝘓𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘰𝘯: 𝘈 𝘏𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺), Sammy shared her approach to creating comic strips and walked campers through her process from the initial setup to the final resolution.

Inspired by real-life experiences and everyday encounters, Sammy showed campers how ideas can come from anywhere and why it’s important to write them down when they arrive.

Amanda McCavour’s installation 𝘋𝘰𝘶𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘚𝘩𝘢𝘥𝘰𝘸 has transformed our Atrium into a tremendous landscape of thread, light, and shadow since opening in March.

Composed of more than 400 intricately stitched elements, the expansive textile installation brings together embroidery, sewing, felting, and drawing techniques to create delicate botanical and geometric forms.

Before our Community Corn Roast kicks off on September 19, join McCavour for a special artist talk and hear firsthand about the inspiration, process, and ideas behind this remarkable work.

Today is , and we couldn't think of a better way to celebrate than by spotlighting our current exhibition, 𝘚𝘯𝘢𝘱𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘵𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘜𝘴. 📸

Co-curated by our Curator of Regional History & Contemporary Culture, Amber Lloydlangston, and community member Danielle Longfield, 𝘚𝘯𝘢𝘱𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘵𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘜𝘴 grew from a participant-led, PhotoVoice-inspired project centred on parents’ lived experiences during their first months with an infant.

Through deeply personal photographs and stories, participating parents share experiences of new beginnings, uncertainty, vulnerability, and the magic of growing a family. Together, these perspectives invite us to look beyond the picture-perfect moments and make space for the many emotions, challenges, and complexities of early parenthood.
