Gimli Glider pilots to receive aviation distinction award, hall of fame induction

Gimli Glider pilot wouldn't accept hall of fame induction without his first officer, he says

Bob Pearson says making it into the Canadian Aviation Hall of Fame ranks at the top of the distinctions he and his First Officer Maurice Quintal have received over the years. It's been 43 years since a Boeing 767 jet carrying 61 passengers from Montreal to Edmonton made a harrowing emergency landing on an airstrip near Gimli, Man.
The two people in the cockpit, Capt. Bob Pearson, who was an experienced glider pilot, and First Officer Maurice Quintal, who died in 2015, will finally take their places in Canada's Aviation Hall of Fame.
"I was very pleased, it gave me a good glow," said Pearson, speaking with CBC News from an aviation conference in Los Angeles, Calif.

Breaking News!

Restoration of 604s cockpit/flight deck continues.

The project has just received a valued donation from Scroggins Aviation, Las Vegas, of authentic cockpit windows. The original cockpit windows of the retired 604 had been sold, and were no longer available.

Doug Scroggins, of "Scroggins Aviation", https://scrogginsaviation.com/ world-renowned for his expert mock-ups and recreation of aviation history in the film industry, has a tremendous respect for the Gimli Glider story.

This generous gift has saved our restoration team a large amount of funding costs and time spent to locate and acquire windows from several sources.

We look forward to his visit with us in the future. Please see the current carcass state of the famous aircraft, as it rests in the Mojave boneyard, along with the photo of Doug.
