The preparations for the are now well underway. Now in its 40th year, the Sooke Fine Arts Show offers an opportunity for artists from BC’s coastal islands to showcase their recent creations.

I am excited to have two pieces in this year’s show. These are new forms with new designs and new glaze combinations.

Make sure to pay the show a visit to view the hundreds of fine creations.

From my latest batch of teapots, this one enjoys to shine.

It holds four generous cups of tea and it doesn’t mind being the centre of attention during tea parties.

I decided to give it an extra handle due to its majestic head gear ✨🌟✨

It’s available online or in my gallery shop. Visit my website for more details.

The teapot, a much loved and cherished part of family gatherings, of celebrations or of quiet reflective moments, is also one of the most intricate pottery pieces to create.

The expectations we have for our favourite teapots are high; they must be good looking, they must hold just the right amount of tea, they must pour well and they must have the right handle. And I like to think they should have some personality as well. All these components come into play when making a teapot.

With these things in mind, you will be building a teapot from scratch and I will provide you with the necessary tools and suggestions to make this happen.

A handbuilt teapots can be coiled or slab built, or a combination of the two.

We will go over the different techniques and with your ideas and design in mind we will decide what method works best for your pot.

This is a six-session workshop with classes Wednesdays and Fridays starting July 8 and continuing until July 22. The final class is a glazing class and this class will happen once your teapots are dry and bisque fired. Due to the size and intricacies of these pots we may choose to dry them more slowly thus having the glazing class happen a week or two later.
