Photography students spent the week interacting with the exhibits in the coolest ways - crouching for unexpected angles, capturing the texture of the pieces up close and framing the art in ways we’ve never seen before!

“I am writing to draw your attention to a new exhibition that opened [May 1st].
The work of the well-known Canadian artist Richard Roblin is now on display at the Cowichan Public Art Gallery [in the upper gallery] through mid-October.
I was deeply impressed by the venue—it is truly “world class.” Being in the room, surrounded by so much of Richard’s work, gave me goosebumps.
Richard Roblin (1940–2022) was a resident of the Duncan and a close friend of mine for 40 years, which made the experience especially meaningful.
The Cowichan Public Art Gallery is a volunteer-run institution, beautifully situated on Ingram Street. It was refreshing to see such a strong turnout and to witness the genuine appreciation for the work of a Canadian artist among the many visitors…” -Peter Schionning

Discover the vibrant, storytelling art of Robert Burke. 🎨 Born in the NWT, Robert’s work is a powerful exploration of his mixed Black and Métis heritage. Using bold colors and unique graphic imagery, he transforms memories into a narrative of resilience, identity, and healing.
Don’t miss his upcoming show running March 13 – May 30, 2026.

The Art of Will Julsing
With selected works from the Permanent Collection
of the Cowichan Public Art Gallery opens to members only on Thursday evening and to the public on Friday November 7th. Known for his unique style and generous heart, beloved Dutch Canadian artist, Will Julsing was a pioneer of the Cowichan Valley’s arts community. His murals have adorned buildings and walls around our public and commercial spaces, while his mesmerizing paintings have been featured in local solo and group shows for decades.

Julsing was also respected internationally as an award winning artist and as an architect whose work included a hospital, a mosque and a monastery. His haunting paintings, shown in Canada, the US and Europe, will linger in your memory.

This stunning exhibit, in the newly-renovated ground floor space of the Green Door building, is from a collection of the artist’s paintings from the 1970s into the 2000s which was recently and generously donated to CPAG by Julsing’s widow, Bernice Woollam.

A selection of his paintings can be viewed online at willjulsing.com
