Did you know that Ladner’s Arthur Drive is a Heritage Conservation Area?

One of Delta’s most historic corridors, Arthur Drive was laid out back in the 1880s — originally known as Slough Road — and it’s still lined with stately early homes, many of them well over a century old.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing the stories behind this remarkable street, one property at a time.
This photo looks south along Arthur Drive — do you recognize these buildings?

On the far left is the Westholme Residence (also known as the David McKee Residence, more recently as Melodie Court, and today as Delta Lodge) at 4501 Arthur Drive. Next is the Wilson Residence at 4585 Arthur Drive, and then the Ottewell Residence at 4605 Arthur Drive — all still standing today.

Follow along as we explore the corridor from south to north, tracing the Chilukthan Slough and the heritage homes that line it. More to come!

Around this time, Ladner was transitioning from a pioneer settlement into a more organized agricultural and commercial community. The most significant issues were flood control and dyking, agricultural development, municipal organization, and community celebrations such as the first May Days.
