Delta's second woman mayor and one of its longest-serving modern civic leaders. She was first elected to Council in 1972 and spent decades in municipal politics. She became mayor in 1999 and served for 19 years, making her tenure one of the longest in Delta's history. She was particularly prominent on agricultural land protection, transportation and the campaign for a replacement for the George Massey Tunnel.

4501 Arthur Drive

At the corner of 45th Avenue and Arthur Drive stands Westholme, a grand Tudor Revival home built in 1905–06 for David Alexander McKee.

Designed by prominent architect Samuel Maclure, square and solid beneath a pyramidal hip roof, it's dressed in stained and leaded glass, projecting bays and second-storey half-timbering, with elaborate woodwork inside.

From 1964 to the mid 2010's, Westholme served the community as a personal care home, most recently known as Delta Lodge.

It's current future is unknown with recent development applications still pending.

Known locally as Ernie Burnett, he served as an alderman before becoming mayor. He was active in numerous community organizations, including Delta and Surrey hospitals, the Delta Agricultural Society, Chamber of Commerce and Police Board. He was later named Delta Citizen of the Year.

When the Follis Residence went up in 1929, the local paper noted it "completes that side of the road as a residential street."

This handsome Craftsman bungalow — built for Mr. and Mrs. James Follis, who lived here just two years before decamping to a Chilliwack farm — still wears many of its original details, from multi-paned, double-hung windows to an early garage tucked at the rear.

Passed down through the Deane and Robertson families and carefully preserved even when its lot was subdivided in 1992, it remains one of Arthur Drive's most impeccably kept early homes.

Mr. Goode was a builder, developer and teacher who also served as a Member of Parliament. He became Delta's mayor after his federal political career and served until 1979.

The Lindseth Residence, built in 1913 for pioneer Anton Lindseth, remains a treasured link to Ladner’s early history.

The Lindseth family established deep roots in Port Guichon and Ladner, when Arthur Drive was part of the historic Slough Road connecting this important farming and shipping community.

The home also played a role in Delta’s civic history when the Lindseth family’s daughter, Esther, married future Delta Reeve John W. Kirkland there in 1917.

Still standing today, the beautifully preserved home has been recognized with a Friends of Heritage Award for maintaining its historic character and preserving an important piece of Ladner’s past.

When contractor Henry Thomas "Harry" Bishop came west from Ontario in 1909, he had a builder's eye for a good lot.

In 1920 he bought a strip of land on the east side of what was then Slough Road and put up six houses on it — and this one, built in 1922, was the first and the largest, the home he built for himself and his family.

A handsome Craftsman with two shed dormers, it shows off the style's hallmarks: triangular eave brackets, twin-course shingle cladding in the upper storey, a projecting bay to the north, and a feature casement window glowing with an amber leaded transom.

Beautifully kept by its current owners, it marks the point where rural Arthur Drive gives way to the old outskirts of Ladner village.
