SS Master Society

SS Master Society Founded in 1971. The SS Master Society maintains and operates British Columbia's sole remaining steam-powered, wooden hulled tugboat the SS MASTER. The S.S.

Our team of volunteers dedicate thousands of hours every year to keep the Master in a seaworthy condition. The SS Master Society is a volunteer non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and restoration of the 100-year-old Steam Tugboat the SS Master, a truly iconic maritime symbol of the B.C. towing industry. Master’s future hangs in the balance, and we are asking for support of Britis

h Columbians to assist with funding for much-needed repair and restorations. These essential repairs include replacement of the aft bulwarks, rim timber,
deck beams, horn timber, replacement of the upper deck, main deck beam repair,
and replacement of wheelhouse roof. So why should we keep the old tug Master afloat? It has to do with the
recognition and appreciation of our Province’s maritime heritage,
celebrating those who came before us who built the foundations upon
which the abundant life we enjoy today is based. Virtually all goods and services to BC coastal communities move by tug and barge . We are dedicated to
recognizing publicly and prominently the vital role that the towboat
industry has played and continues to play in the commerce of British
Columbia today. This project is a wonderful opportunity for the citizens of British
Columbia to demonstrate pride and determination in preserving our
coastal heritage for generations to come. We are asking for your
financial support to ensure that the S.S. Master can continue to serve the
Lower Mainland as an ambassador of B.C.'s maritime heritage.

Today, I became aware of proposed plans by Vancouver City Council to rezone Vancouver's Heritage Harbour. In their words "the rezoning is to maintain museum and park use, and to add a beauty and wellness centre".

This space should be maintained for heritage vessels, not for 150'by 30' tall barges.

Please take a moment to write to Vancouver City Council to protect our heritage spaces. Please also sign the petition below
