Canoe

Fossilized tree trunk. Geological time.

The original wood has been entirely replaced by silica and other minerals over millions of years. A vertical excavation of its interior converts it into a natural resonance chamber. Time and again, a drumstick strikes the external surface of the trunk, activating a vibration within the fossil and releasing a sound that carries a broad spectrum of immemorial frequencies - determined by the density of the silica, the internal tensions of the fossil, and its newly excavated form. The sound of its being.

Did you know that both Nassos Daphnis and Rita McBride found inspiration in television test patterns?

Though working in different generations and across different mediums, both artists worked from the color calibration screens once used to adjust televisions. What began as a purely functional visual tool became a source of abstraction, structure, and experimentation.

Bringing together Daphnis’s geometric paintings and McBride’s sculptural and architectural works, « Abstract Constructions » reveals surprising dialogues between color, line, perception, and space.

Come discover!

A wonderful encounter with the daughter of the great artist Louis Cane, one of the most iconic figures of the Supports/Surfaces movement. Thrilled that this artwork is now part of the Fondation CAB collection.

EXHIBITION — BRUSSELS
ORE

Invited by Paloma Bosquê to take part in Ore, Roberto Freitas presents Psithurisme Prismatique, 2024–2026 — an installation composed of eleven gouache paintings on wood activated through electronics and behavioral algorithms.

Combining meticulous craftsmanship with programmed systems, Freitas develops works that move, react, and evolve in real time. Mounted on easels, the paintings shift through subtle circular motions while a programmed system continuously alters their speed, making the moving image almost impossible to fully grasp. With closer attention, details slowly begin to emerge.

On view at Fondation CAB Wednesday to Saturday, from 12 pm to 6 pm. Until July 18, 2026

EXHIBITION, SAINT-PAUL-DE-VENCE

ABSTRACT CONSTRUCTIONS
Nassos Daphnis – Rita McBride

With A Stair (1999), Rita McBride transforms an everyday architectural element into a minimalist sculpture.
Made of wood inlay and metal, the work blurs the boundary between function and abstraction, questioning how design and structure shape our movement through space.

Open every day from 10 am to 6 pm

EXHIBITION, SAINT-PAUL-DE-VENCE

ABSTRACT CONSTRUCTIONS
Nassos Daphnis – Rita McBride

With Color Test (Superman) 2009, Rita McBride transforms the graphic language of television test screens into a woven tapestry.
Inspired by analog calibration patterns, the work explores the relationship between technology, abstraction and domestic space.

Through geometric forms and vibrant colors, McBride turns a functional visual code into a minimalist and contemplative composition, blurring the boundaries between art, design and everyday imagery.

Open every day from 10 am to 6 pm

EXHIBITION — BRUSSELS

Paloma Bosquê & Roberto Freitas — Ore, 2026

Thank you to Paloma Bosquê, Roberto Freitas Van Den Weghe Stone Atelier and Yoel Pytowski for this beautiful opening and collaboration.

Ore emerges from the tension between the density of matter and the concert of energies that traverse, animate, and fragilize it. In order to stand, any form or being requires a delicate balance between strength and vulnerability.

On view from tomorrow until 18.07.2026.

SAVE THE DATE — BRUSSELS

Currently installing ORE, the upcoming collaborative exhibition by Paloma Bosquê & Roberto Freitas.

Initiated through an invitation from the Van Den Weghe Stone Atelier, the exhibition brings together the practices of the two artists through works rooted in geological time and material memory. Approaching the Earth as a living archive, matter becomes a site of dialogue, where processes remain active and visible.

Opening 20 May 2026.
