Together, Pao Hui Kao (Taiwan/Netherlands) and Didi Ng Wing Yin (Hong Kong/Finland) engage in a dialogue between fragility and solidity, surface and structure, tradition and innovation, resulting in a series of collectible vessels and furniture pieces that blur the boundaries between art, design, and cultural expression. Both have been finalists of the LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize, respectively in 2022 and 2025. Spazio Nobile has published Artist Books on them following their duo shows: 25 Seasons and The Nature of Wood.

Spazio Nobile at BRAFA! ✨ At the BRAFA Art Fair press conference hosted inside the stunning Hotel Falligan on the Kouter in Ghent, we are proud to showcase:
Pao Hui Kao – Black Urushi Paper Pleats, Florence Coenraets – Haïku: Le soleil et nous (feather painting) and Bela Silva, New artist monograph who will be exhibited at Brafa with her works on paper and ceramic sculptures.
Set within an exclusive art exhibition and dinner hosted by BRAFA at FRANCIS MAERE Fine Arts Gallery, these contemporary creations enter a unique dialogue with the gallery’s historical collection, including works by Japanese artist Yumiko Yoneda and Belgian modern masters such as Gustave Serrurier-Bovy and Jean Brusselmans.

"White on White Collage’ is Dutch artist Kiki van Eijk’s largest Jacquard woven tapestry to date. It plays a central role in the ‘Playing Doll’Room’ Artipelag near Stockholm, Sweden.

Created for the exhibition Inner Child (10.10.2026–11.4.2027), this tapestry explores refinement and contrast through the beauty of everyday family life. The work depicts a landscape inspired by Kiki’s own backyard garden: a hand-built tree hut surrounded by dreamy plants, bushes and trees, with a path leading towards your dreams. It suggests that a dream does not always have to be somewhere far away or out of reach. Sometimes it can be found very close to yourself and your own home — quite literally, in your own backyard.

The tapestry is a rich experiment in texture, technique and material. Yarns and fibres such as paper, alpaca wool, recycled polyester, linen, cotton and mohair create a tactile landscape that shifts from soft to rough, matte to shiny and subtly glittering. These contrasts are brought together in a visually pleasing and sensorial way, while at the same time pushing the boundaries of working entirely in white on white: how far can colour be stripped away, and how much of the original message can still remain visible?

Ann Beate Tempelhaug’s large-scale stoneware tableaux masterfully blur the line between sculpture and painting, transforming heavy ceramic material into fluid, abstract canvases. Inspired by the dramatic landscapes and shifting atmospheric light of Northern Norway, her works use layered porcelain glazes fired at extreme temperatures to evoke deep emotional and natural textures.

Highlights at Villa Spazio Nobile

At the entrance of Villa Spazio Nobile, three Belgian and one Swedish artists from the gallery meet in dialogue. Handtufted wool bozzetti depicting fragments of a Piedmont landscape by the late Vera Vermeersch connect naturally with Isaac Monté’s Crystallized Sculptural Vase, grown from a recipe of salt, minerals, and oxides and Åsa Jungnelius’s Mother of Pearl, cast and hot sculpted glass sculpture. Completing the ensemble, feather artist Florence Coenraets creates delicate feather paintings like Semer alongside haiku-inspired works—with her radiant Le soleil et nous greeting you directly as you step into the house.
