JOHN LESLIE LANDSCAPE PRIZE 2026
Linden is pleased to be shortlisted for the 2026 biennial John Leslie Landscape prize and to be included in the exhibition at the Gippsland Art Gallery in Sale. She was also shortlisted for this prize in 2024.
The gallery said selecting was conducted blind. Each image was assigned a number, and the judges were given only the title, medium and dimensions of each work.
Announcement of the winner will be at a special function on Friday, September 4, with the exhibition open to the public from September 5 to November 22, 2026.
There were 49 artworks shortlisted from 577 entries.
Linden’s artwork is titled “Antithesis in Nature. Abundance Drought. My River – Mitchell” and is a hand-
coloured (watercolour) linocut.

Yesterday Pete and I drove to Barham NSW, on the Murray River to visit Gwen Clarke. Gwen was the naive art tutor at BACE, the adult community education centre back in the late 80s. She created the naive art group which met every Thursday after the classes stopped. Over the years the numbers have dwindled for a variety of reasons, but a stalwart group of five still meets weekly. In the early 90s Gwen moved to Barham to live with her new partner on his rice farm. She joined a group of local artists whose art was traditional. At 88 Gwen no longer paints. We shared many great memories of her time in East Gippsland.
