East Gippsland Historical Society We have been operating the Museum in Macarthur Street since 1972. We display and preserve local artefacts pertinent to Bairnsdale and surrounding districts.

Our collection includes photographs, local history books and newspapers, maps and archives.

Our next Bairnsdale cemetery tour is on All Hallows Eve, Friday evening 31 October 2025 at 7.00pm. The tour will take approximately 1-1.5 hours and will meander through the historic sections of the Cemetery. Cost is $10.00 per person. Participants receive a booklet outlining the stories of the graves featured. To book a place contact via messenger or call the museum on 03 5152 6363.

Bullumwaal Mechanics Hall is celebrating its 130th Birthday with an Open Day on Sunday 24th of August 2025, 11.00am to 2.00pm.
There will be a local history and mining display, and the historic stage curtain will also be on display.
Sausage Sizzle, Tea, coffee and light refreshments available.
