The unusual story of the young French boy who became known as Henri Hermene "Digger" Tovell started at Christmas 1918 in Germany with the No. 4 Squadron Officers. Listen to his life in the video. We thank the Tovell family for their donations and use of their photos and should welcome any additional information and background.

Noosa Museum is currently re-designing part of the downstairs display area – including the display of items once belonging to Jack Chapple, Pomona’s Barber who worked out of an area adjacent, or in, the Pomona Hotel. We would like to include this photograph and wondering if anyone can identify the gentleman in the chair.
Museum open for visitors 10.00am to 3.00pm Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Cooran once had 3 churches. A Methodist Church in Queen Street (still there, now a private residence), St Matthew’s Catholic Church initially located at the top of George Street (D295) and then moved to Queen Street sometime in the 1930’s (C29), and confusingly, St Matthew’s Anglican Church also located in George St. (P1370). Can you see Queen Street in photo C29 – it’s a track!

St Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Kin Kin (B906) was built in the 1920s alongside St Luke’s Church of England (B905). Both were damaged in the cyclone that tore through the region in 1985. St Mary’s was deconsecrated and removed. St Lukes was repaired, but then deconsecrated in June 1921.

Anzac Day – Lest We Forget
The Museum holds artefacts, memorabilia, photographs and stories relating to Noosa Shire residents who served in the various Wars.
One such family were the Stewarts of Kin Kin, farmers and originally part of the Moran Settler Group.
Andrew Gorman (Gorey) Stewart fought in WWI - the virtual war memorial has a very interesting account of his service - https://vwma.org.au/explore/people/761042 - he was wounded twice and won The Military Medal ( an Imperial award for bravery in battle, instituted in 1916 for "other ranks" of the Australian Army and Air Force to recognise acts of gallantry and devotion to duty under fire).
Thank you to his great niece Julia, who has shared with the Museum photographs and information relating to her great uncle Gorey and other members of her family’s service. A428

Hidden Gem – the Museum does not just hold historical ‘man-made’ items.
A336 Green Sawfish beak/rostrum from a 1.27m Sawfish caught in a net in the early 1900s in the Noosa River.
Caught by F.G. Lister and sons. The Sawfish had sadly been mauled by a shark. These fish are an endangered species world-wide.
