Museum Membership Renewal Time.
It’s July so membership renewal time for Cooroora Historical Society TA Noosa Museum.
Membership is just $20 (Concession $15) and contributes to the ongoing support and running of the Noosa Museum in Pomona. Membership does not require volunteering.
Of course we could not do it without the support of our wonderful band of volunteers who contribute hundreds of hours over the year. Photo is from a recent collaboration with Parkyn’s Hut, contributing a display to their 25th anniversary celebrations.
We are very grateful to be the recipient of a Noosa Shire Council Alliance Grant which helps cover some of our running costs. Such ‘behind the scene’ costs as insurance, electricity, phone and internet, rates, rent, pest control, essential maintenance, database licences.
If you would like to become a member please email [email protected], drop in to the Museum on a Wednesday or Saturday 10am -3pm, or use the contact form on our website www.noosamuseum.org

Robert Davies Queensland Day Award presentation by Sandy Bolton.
Robert has volunteered with Noosa Shire Museum for 35 years. Born and bred in the Pomona area Robert spent all of his later years volunteering in his community. Robert was a firefighter in Pomona from 1978 to 1988; then began volunteering at the Noosa Shire Museum in Pomona in 1990 and remains to do so now, with a vested interested in the maintenance of the museums two classic fire trucks.
Robert has restored an old army jeep and drives it in ANZAC Day parades in Gympie, Imbil and Cooroy taking Diggers for a ride in the parade.
The photo shows Robert standing in front of a picture of his grandfather, Worshipful Brother William Hodge, who painted the murals featured in our most recent video reel. See 03 June post below

A fascinating find amongst our papers: a letter from two Tewantin residents asking a young man to reconsider enlisting in World War One.
We don't have any photographs of the Old brothers - William, Clarence or John Thomas (the latter two men did enlist)
Thankfully all three brothers survived and lived to great ages.
Would anyone have a photograph of any of the brothers they would be willing to share with the Museum and allow public access to view?
The Museum is putting together a story about those who stayed home - to run the farm, to provide essential services etc.
We hope someone might be able to assist, museum open to all 10.00am to 3.00pm Wednesday and Saturday - Free entry, gold coin donations welcome.

Amazing murals were painted by Worshipful Brother William Hodge in the Cooroora Masonic Temple in Station Street; now in private ownership. The paintings were based on those in the Criterion Restaurant, Piccadilly, London and due to damage caused by bombing in World War 2 these are thought to be the only surviving copies of the original.
Our Noosa Museum hosts an extensive collection of artifacts from the Cooroora Masonic Temple. Visitors welcome 10,00 am to 3.00 pm, Wednesday and Saturday - Free entry, gold coin donations welcome.

The unusual story of the young French boy who became known as Henri Hermene "Digger" Tovell started at Christmas 1918 in Germany with the No. 4 Squadron Officers. Listen to his life in the video. We thank the Tovell family for their donations and use of their photos and should welcome any additional information and background.
Museum open Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10.00am to 3.00pm. All welcome, no entry fee, gold coin donations welcome.

Noosa Museum is currently re-designing part of the downstairs display area – including the display of items once belonging to Jack Chapple, Pomona’s Barber who worked out of an area adjacent, or in, the Pomona Hotel. We would like to include this photograph and wondering if anyone can identify the gentleman in the chair.
Museum open for visitors 10.00am to 3.00pm Wednesdays and Saturdays.
