We can't thank our volunteers enough for the time they provide to keep the Gallery a welcoming space for our visitors and artists. For over 25 years, the Pomona Gallery had been led and staffed by volunteers. They make this Gallery the special place that it is, from welcoming visitors, hanging exhibitions, being on the Committee and looking after the gardens. So thank you to our volunteers and to all the volunteers that provide for our community.

3D Artist of the Month - May | Cindy Mills

Cindy is a Bundjalung artist living and working on Kabi Kabi country for most of her life. She grew up on the Sunshine Coast and after moving around the state for work and family reasons, settled back into the Noosa region around 6 years ago.

Cindy mainly works with clay, making sculptural forms and functional objects but also does a lot of printmaking.

Her art is inspired by the ocean environment and the animals, birds and shells that live in and around it. Her sculptural forms are mostly unglazed as she prefers to work with the natural colours and textures of the clay. The sea urchin and sand dollar are recurring motifs in her work as is the dove and fish.

Volunteer of the Month: Jewel Polkinghorne
Jewel says she has found both purpose and inspiration through her volunteer work at the Pomona Railway Gallery, where she has been contributing her time for the past 12 months.

“The gallery is often described by visitors as a peaceful and welcoming space. So many people comment on the relaxed atmosphere—it really is a gem of the township,” Jewel says.

Jewel’s role includes small plant sales, tending to cuttings and repotting them into pre-loved and unique containers. With a lifelong connection to the arts—first as a student, then as an art teacher, and now in retirement—Jewel has recently returned to painting with renewed focus

Inspired by native Australian flora and fauna, mother and daughter duo Nikki Hann and Skye Byrnes celebrate our natural environment with Bush, Bugs & Birds.

Their experiences exploring the bush inform vibrant works in acrylic, watercolour, pen, sculpture, and mixed media, each offering a unique and playful perspective on local landscapes, birds, and insects.

Tom Murray is holding his first solo exhibition at the Banana Shed, "Creating with Nature". Tom expresses his love for nature on canvas and through the use of clay. His enthusiastic nature is reflected in his energetic brushstrokes and use of colour.
Tom is also one of our newest members and volunteers.
The exhibition opens on Sat 25 April until Thursday 21 May 2026.
