Please join me for the opening event of my solo show, ‘What Binds Us.’

These works began in my head while travelling through Central and Western Australia, and slowly took shape over two years.

Painted on rough-edged, torn canvas, then collaged and stitched together using wax linen thread, each piece is my way of capturing the rawness of remote Australia and my connection to it.

WHAT BINDS US | SOLO SHOW

Stitching and collaging onto canvas is how I bring together the threads of memory, landscape and connection that run through my work.

Growing up in Western Queensland gave me an enduring bond with the bush, inseparable from family and memory. I have been fortunate to pass this on to my children, especially my son. He is an explorer in the truest sense and now leads me on journeys that stretch me further. His expeditions demand hardiness and courage, offering rare chances to meet the Australian landscape in its rawest form. Sleeping in a swag under the open sky, I encounter fear and awe.

These trips have become quiet meditations on resilience and on how profoundly children teach their parents. Coming from a family of makers, the process of layering and stitching mirrors how I piece these thoughts together.

I will be in Sydney for the duration of the show. I hope you will come and say hi.

What a lovely surprise to be selected as a finalist in the Hornsby Art Prize.

I have been slack at entering art prizes for many years - mainly because I hate creating something for something! I find it stifles my work and it ends up feeling forced.. I entered this work because I thought it was ok and might be a good fit. I didn't make it specifically for the prize.. but here it is. 🙂
