This week we played cafe at Kids Hub. Pretend play is easy to facilitate at home, plus it's a brain booster, helping kids grow in fabulous ways. Letβs explore some super simple pretend play ideas using stuff you already have at home!
π¦ Cardboard Castle
Turn a cardboard box into a royal castle or cozy cabin with some markers and imagination.
- Benefit: Sparks creativity and fine motor skills as they decorate and set up their kingdom.
π Hat Parade
Grab some hats, scarves, and sunglasses for a quirky dress-up session.
- Benefit: Boosts social skills and self-expression while encouraging role play and storytelling.
π§Ή Magic Potion Lab
Mix water, food colouring, and baking soda for a magical potion-making experience. Add some vinegar for extra fizzy fun!
- Benefit: Introduces basic science concepts and enhances problem-solving as they experiment with different mixtures.
π½οΈ Restaurant at Home
Pull out the plastic plates and cups, cut up or scrunch coloured paper for food and money, and set up a pretend restaurant, where they can be the chef or server.
- Benefit: Develops maths skills and social etiquette while taking orders and counting change.

Baby dolls or soft toys become the babies they look after. Pull out blankets, make beds, pretend to feed or even give the toys a bath.
