Last days of 22 yr old Olivia Cotovich’s Olivia Cotovich debut solo exhibition “Pay to Play”, with the final day this Saturday 17 October where Olivia will be in the gallery drawing a lucky door prize you don’t want to miss ✨

Come on down to the Coffs Laneways today from 3pm and check out Olivia Cotovich’s debut exhibition opening, grab a free cupcake and beverage, stroll next door to the brand new art studio and workshop space Outremer Lane | Coffs Harbour Art Studio by N.Case where she’s set up a free Still Life drop-in table for kids and adults with cute toys, weird clowns and flowers for you to play and experiment with different materials and see how it feels in the new workspace.

Then walk through the building maze to Liam’s Liam Peacock new Grunge Gallery and check out some alternative art and the beginnings of what this eclectic creative shop and gallery will be offering.

We’d love to share our creative spaces with you and your families today, it’s all free and fun and we’re next door to yummy The Happy Frog cafe and King Tide Brewing as well as our gallery friends Saltwater Freshwater Arts Alliance showcasing Aboriginal artists from the Mid North Coast til 2pm. When people have asked what’s moving into the space next to The Laneway Gallery in Coffs, it’s been a tricky one to explain exactly what hillform is. So it’s an absolute pleasure to finally introduce you to the place at the heart of it all 💕

Yesterday I headed out to Hillform’s beautiful home on Fridays Creek Road in Upper Orara for their Open Studio day, and got a glimpse of where all the magic will happen. Their new Hillform Laneway space in Coffs will act as a little window into this much bigger creative world, with artwork displays and photoshoots, as well as a central place to discover and book everything from workshops to artist retreats.

A massive congratulations and thank you to founders Heather Heather Mckinnon and Philip Theobald, who have brought this ambitious dream to life, while also helping to keep The Laneway Gallery open through genuine support of our local creative culture.

There’s a real buzz around whats happening here. People from across the arts industry coming together with a shared goal of creating better creative learning opportunities, from young and emerging artists right through to offering established and city-based artists a beautiful place to not only teach, but retreat, learn, and create.

Yesterday felt very inspiring and positive, and I can’t wait to watch both Hillform and their little Laneway outpost evolve, and see what they add to the creative landscape of the Mid North Coast 😌👏💕

Artist Highlight: Vanessa Hunter

Many of you may know Vanessa as the brilliant performer and singer from The The Velvet Curtain Co, but to my delight, that’s just one of her many talents. Vanessa is also a photojournalist and spent time working as a foreign correspondent in Mexico, where she collaborated with Zapotec artisans to bring the myths and stories of Indigenous Mexican folklore to life through photography and hand-carved masks.

Currently showing in A Bad, Bad Thing are Vanessa’s striking works The Corn God I & II and Santa Muerte in the Mangroves.

The Corn God is one of Mesoamerica’s oldest deities, symbolising life, renewal and the cycle of the seasons, while Santa Muerte represents death, protection, luck and fortune in Mexican folk tradition. Across these works, Vanessa explores mythology, identity, transformation and that enduring human relationship with belief.

These beautiful black and white photographs have been produced as hand-signed archival fine art prints on 100% cotton paper, made to be enjoyed for generations.

If you love photography with a bit of history, mythology and a story to uncover, come and see them in person while A Bad, Bad Thing is still on the walls 🖤

I am very excited to announce “Pay to Play,” our next debut solo exhibition by emerging Port Macquarie artist Olivia Cotovich 💖

Inspired by a recent trip to Japan, this vibrant collection transforms claw machines, toys and nostalgic moments into richly detailed paintings that celebrate colour, curiosity and childhood joy, while gently questioning consumerism, value and our lifelong attraction to play.

Please join us for a fun-filled afternoon opening on Saturday 3 October, 3–5pm, complete with colourful cupcakes made by Olivia herself 🧁

There’ll be something for everyone, from Olivia’s own merch and fine art prints to framed original oil paintings in a range of sizes and price points. Come celebrate Olivia’s first solo exhibition and see the colourful collection she’s spent the past 12 months bringing to life 💖🐸🤩🧸🤖

Looking for something a bit different and like to make the most of art by wearing it!?

These bangles and rings by Tori Ann Donnelly are currently available at The Laneway Gallery and are made from paperbark, gold leaf and resin.

Tori Ann is an artist, curator and educator connected to Bundjalyng and Gumbaynggirr Country.

Nominated for the 2026 Aunty Grace Roberts awards in Arts & Culture, Donnelly’s mulit-disciplinary works blend traditional and contemporary practices while exploring her strong cultural ties, truth telling, healing and identity. Donnelly has made a significant contribution to the Gumbaynggirr region having curated exhibitions such as Ngarrannga Ngaanya Junaaygirr (hear me speak) for Yarrila Arts and Museum, coinciding with the nationally rejected voice to parliament in 2023. Donnelly will have her first solo exhibition ‘Balawun.ga’ at Yarrawarra Cultural Centre Yarrawarra Aboriginal Cultural Centre in October 2026 followed by an artist residency at Bundanoo.

Were super chuffed to include these beautiful pieces in the current group exhibition, A Bad Bad Thing, showing til Sept 5th, gallery open hours Wednesday to Saturdays 10am–2pm.

We’re in our first of four weeks for the Bad, Bad Thing group exhibition and sales are good! Let’s keep it going til the end 🙌
