Nambucca Headland Museum Located at 50 Liston Street we are open 2 to 4 pm Wednesday Saturday & Sunday.

The Nambucca Headland Museum is a non-profit enterprise operated by a team of volunteers dedicated to preserving and promoting the history of the Nambucca Valley.

The museum was proud to present a copy of our book, Nambucca Stories, to MP for Cowper Pat Conaghan, on a visit to 2NVR's studio at Tewinga yesterday. Mr Conaghan was a big supporter of our Nambucca Railway Station Centenery in 2023 and has the book from that event. He was at 2NVR to congratulate the members on receiving a volunteer grant for technological equipment. Thanks Pat and staff for coming all the way to Tewinga!

We were privileged to have a visit from Jenny Grant, a direct descendant and avid researcher of Marmaduke England, an early settler of Valla. Marmaduke kept diaries, one of which we have a copy of and which Jenny was keen to scan. Picture is of Jenny doing the scanning at the museum.
Visits like these make a wonderful personal connection to early European settlers and we greatly appreciate that Jenny did all that scanning so we have a digital backup copy.

Thank you to Robin Hedditch for donating the vintage watercolour of a local house by Gwen Owen, featured in an earlier post. We don't know where the house is or when it was painted, but we are sufficiently intrigued and will have it restored. Maybe in the future someone will fill in the details while it warms up a spot at the museum!

Two of our volunteers today attended a Canva for Business workshop, presented by Nambucca Valley Council, at the Tafe Connected Learning Centre at Nambucca Heads. Our aim was to pick up skills pending the retirement of the Publisher program, which is what the museum uses to print flyers and publications.
We were not disappointed. The convenors, Elizabeth Spry and Janice Rooney, provided expert knowledge and friendly assistance from which we will benefit greatly. Carrolline was particularly pleased as she can use the program in promoting her Wyz Wimmin and Friends Theatre Company as well. We were even well fed. Thank you to Council, Elizabeth and Janice. We really appreciated your valuable assistance.

Our book "Nambucca Stories" a collection of 68 stories of local history is on sale, not only at the Headland Museum but also at Club Nambucca, Mary Boulton Pioneer Cottage & Museum and just recently the Visitors Information Centre at Nambucca Heads.

AGM aside, it was back to business as usual on Monday with a workshop on using a light box run by our MGNSW advisor, Joan Kelly. Headland Museum volunteers were joined by David from the Mary Boulton Pioneer Cottage and Museum and Charlie from Frank Partridge VC Military Museum. Wow! We learnt a lot about photographing museum items for catalogue and collection purposes. Thanks to Joan Kelly and all who attended. We had a wonderful time learning and working with all the museums.

Nambucca District Historical Society (Nambucca Headland Museum) celebrated an active year at its 2026 Annual General Meeting on Saturday 19th of September. Retiring President, Margaret Duffus was especially thanked for her tenure and enthusiastic application with one of her recruited volunteers saying, "Thank you Marg for your continual guidance on being a novice volunteer to the museum! You have done Nambucca proud in your President's role."
The new committee is now Rachel Burns, President. David Day, Vice President, Jeanne Walther, Treasurer and Beverly Gibbs, Secretary.
A motion was made to thank Nambucca Bowling Club for their support through our participation in the 100 club and promotion of our publications. Our volunteer auditor, Geoff Minett was thanked and reappointed for another year. Geoff made a presentation of wonderful framed photos of Nambucca Heads. Our thanks to Deputy Mayor Susan Jenvey for her attendance and acting as Electoral Officer.
Watch this space we have some great plans coming up in the 2027 year!
