The classic Hotpoint Featherweight Deluxe automatic iron, manufactured in 1948 and used throughout Australian households during the 1940’s & 50’s.
This particular model is Australian made, weighs 1.36kg (or 3 pound in its day) and the sole plate is of chrome aluminium.
It is believed that it was a wedding gift to a member of the Byrnes family and when donated to the museum was in its original box with instruction manual.

Daylight saving was used temporarily during WWI & WWII and was reintroduced in NSW in 1971.

Now here is an interesting bunch of people who obviously are performers of a school play in Macksville.
This photograph is just one of many in the museum collection that is unnamed.

Yesterday, one of our valued friends of the museum, Jan Thomas, kindly donated a copy of Ellen Savage & the heroes of the AHS Centaur. It was accepted by museum president Leanne Welsh.
Thank you Jan, it will take pride of place in the museums research bookcase in honour of Jan’s father, Dr. Bernard Hindmarsh who was one of seven doctors who lost their lives in the sinking of the Centaur medical ship during WWII. Dr Hindmarsh practiced in Macksville during 1925-1943.
