Today, 1 October, we recognise International Day of Older Persons.
This year’s theme, The Age of Longevity, reminds us that living longer is something to value. It also asks us to think about how people can enjoy longer lives with dignity, wellbeing, security and choice.
Older people bring knowledge, experience and perspective to our families, workplaces and communities. Their stories help shape who we are. Their relationships strengthen our sense of belonging. Their contributions continue in many ways, every day.
At MiCare, we believe every person deserves to be seen, heard and valued. Growing older should never lessen a person’s right to make decisions, stay connected or live life on their own terms. Care and support should reflect the whole person — including their culture, spirituality, language, identity and life experience.
Today is also a chance to recognise the human connections that make longer lives meaningful. A familiar conversation, a shared meal, a choice respected or a story heard can help someone feel understood and included.
On International Day of Older Persons, we celebrate the older people among our employees, clients, residents, families and communities. We honour every individual and the rich diversity of their lives. We hope the day brings moments of connection, respect and appreciation for the people and stories that continue to enrich our world. #
