One Design Office One Design Office (ODO) is a multidisciplinary design firm specialising in the fields of Architecture, Product Design, and Branding.

Our design approach is to intentionally cross-pollinate between these fields, giving us the capability to facilitate the creative process from a holistic perspective. This Week’s Design Crush | Laurids Gallée

Jamie takes us into the work of Rotterdam-based designer Laurids Gallée.

Known for his explorations of resin, colour and light, Gallée creates lighting that sits somewhere between functional object and sculpture. His process puts material experimentation at the forefront, using polymer resin to manipulate how light travels, refracts and shifts through a form.

This Week’s Design Crush | The Nantou Public Toilet

For Pei’s latest Design Crush, we’re looking at a piece of public architecture that proves even the most everyday spaces can be approached with extraordinary care.

The Nantou Public Toilet in Shenzhen by Edge Studio was designed around what was already there. Rather than clearing the existing woodland to make way for the building, the architecture responds to it. Four low, leaf-like volumes are carefully positioned between the trees, with foundations designed to avoid their root systems and preserve the existing path through the site.

It’s a thoughtful example of architecture taking its cues from nature, where restraint and consideration become part of the design language.

How do you make a penthouse feel like home?

For the Penthouse at 1 Homes Melbourne, our FF&E design and styling approach focused on bringing warmth, intimacy and a sense of ease to its expansive interiors.

Sculptural furniture, tactile materials, layered textiles and planting were thoughtfully composed to create moments of softness and connection. Each piece was considered in relation to the architecture, natural light and the way the home would be experienced each day.

The result feels collected rather than decorated. Refined yet relaxed, elevated yet deeply liveable.

How do you design a sense of welcome?

For this concept proposal for Lighthouse Family Christian Church, the answer began with light.

A translucent façade captures changing daylight, creating a building that feels different from morning through to evening. Paired with natural materials, generous outdoor spaces and community-focused amenities, the design reflects a place built for gathering, connection and belonging.

This Week’s Design Crush | Lambat Ni Pedro

This week, Pat shares Lambat Ni Pedro, a sculptural light by Filipino Australian designer John Gatip that we’ve recently specified for one of our projects.

Crafted from Tasmanian oak, capiz shells from the Philippines and freshwater pearls, the piece is a tribute to Gatip’s grandfather, a fisherman, drawing inspiration from the fishing nets and handmade hammocks that shaped his childhood. Through its materiality and form, it brings together Filipino heritage and Australian craftsmanship.

What Pat loves most is how the piece celebrates the designer’s heritage while reflecting the experience of building a life between two cultures, something she deeply relates to herself.

It’s a reminder that the most enduring design doesn’t just respond to function. It carries history, identity and personal stories into the present.

This Week’s Design Crush | Kopitiams

The places we grow up around have a way of staying with us, often becoming design references long before we recognise them as such.

For Yu Hien, it’s the kopitiams of home in Malaysia. Their architecture blurs the boundaries between inside and out, public and private, building and street, creating informal spaces where everyday life, food and community naturally overlap.

It’s a simple approach to spatial design that raises interesting ideas around how architecture can engage with the public realm and create more open, social places within our cities.
