Please join us at Elevator ARI for another LFO, our ongoing series dedicated to improvisation and exploratory sound systems: Saturday, the 28th February at 7 pm.
With Monastic Whale, Johnny T and the Adrenalinn Rush, and ArtPleasley. Entry $10
Monastic Whale (Mike Watson) presents STACKS
A sustained synthesiser drone that is split into eight pitch-shifted intervals, each routed to its own speaker arranged in a circle, forming a choir-like spatial field, the resulting soundscape shifts between chaos and otherworldly, beautiful harmonic states over which Mike improvises on guitar and piano, using modified scales and modes that adapt to the evolving droning structure. A numerical representation of the interval stack is projected as a geometric form, which is dynamically altered in real time by the live instrumental performance.
Johnny T & The Adrenalinn Rush
Machines, loops, and human energy collide. For months, Johnny T searched for the perfect tool to perform solo. Watching videos of the Adrenalinn pedal, he became obsessed with its possibilities, its beats and effects quickly became the brain of the show. The pedal proposes; Johnny T responds, triggering every loop, every tension, every experience. Built around loops, fuzz, and layered textures, the performance moves between tension and release, control and chaos, reflecting the artist’s adrenalinic attitude, energy, and shifting mood, creating an experience that is hypnotic, visceral, and unpredictable.
The sound of ArtPleasley is one with echoes of New Orleans, Berlin, Minneapolis, Melbourne, Nashville, and beyond, but is uniquely endemic to the Northern Rivers of NSW. Funk from a first-gen emo kid growing up in headphones and reading liner notes who morphed into a multi-instrumental producer, singer/songwriter, and kaleidoscopic stage performer.
