It was the people. It’s tangible, it’s messy and it’s for everybody.

Climate data turned into portraits, one rockpool painted again and again, and a ceramics studio that needs some love. October at Gallery Lane Cove + Creative Studios has two new exhibitions on until 31 October, new sculptures on both plinths, and AusArt Day on Thursday 22 October, when the gallery is raising $10,000 to refresh its busy ceramics studio. Term 4 classes for adults and kids are running now too.

Avalon Beach Rockpool Series is a collection of impressionistic paintings of one subject that never looks the same twice. The light, the movement and the swimmers change from day to day and year to year. Stephen Denham paints each work by eye with an Apple Pencil, starting from a blank digital canvas. The idea comes from Heraclitus: the painter and the subject are both always changing.

Every portrait needs a subject. Every subject tells a story. 🌡️

In “Eighty Five Seasons”, the subject is our planet. Mac Bryla turns 31,046 daily global temperature readings, from 1941 to 2025, into fifteen portraits made from data.

Bryla builds his own tools to make each image. He starts with raw data recorded from the real world and turns it into something else entirely. No images are generated by AI.

These school holidays, let your little creatives try a bit of everything! Our full-day Creative Camp takes kids on a hands-on adventure through arts and crafts, printmaking, mixed media and ceramics, all in one fun-filled day.

Big night ahead for Gallery Lane Cove! 🎨 This Friday 18 September, four working studios throw open their doors for a free Open Studios evening (5–8pm) — watch potters at the wheel, catch printmakers mid-print, browse the textiles room, and say hello to the gallery's artists in residence. There's also a pop-up shop in the foyer with original pieces from $20, handy for an early gift grab.

Then at 6pm, next door, the 2026 Lane Cove Art Award Finalists' Exhibition opens — one of the area's longest-running art prizes, running since 1963, with a $15,000 first prize from Lane Cove Council and a $2,000 local prize from Hyecorp. Winners are announced on the night, alongside the unveiling of a new mural.

Entry is free for both, kids and families welcome, and the Art Award exhibition stays open through to 3 October if Friday doesn't suit. RSVP encouraged for the Art Award via the link below.
