White Rhino Artspace is a contemporary multifunctional artspace

White Rhino Artspace is a multifunctional artspace with a focus on women creatives and emerging artists on the North Shore. Directors Regula Wettstein and Nikki Wallace believe in the connections between art, mental health and community and are proud to run White Rhino Artspace as a platform for creative exchange. As emerging contemporary artists and curators with a lifelong passion for the arts, Regula and Nikki are keen to foster and launch contemporary and emerging artists onto the North Shore art scene. White Rhino Artspace provides access to affordable and timely exhibition space and creative opportunities on the North Shore. Was great to see ‘Wasted Opportunities’ today at the Willoughby Incinerator Artspace, by Annarie Hildebrand & Yuri Shimmyo, showing until 17 September.

It’s a beautifully curated show of ceramics, printmaking works & oils which cleverly re-imagines our abundance of waste as stunning artworks

Annarie has exhibited on several occasions at White Rhino Artspace over the years. So lovely to see her new body of work.

During our year-long sabbatical at White Rhino, Nicole Wallace is curating …

‘forage: symbiotic (trans) formations’ opening at Gallery Lane Cove + Creative Studios next week - showing from 13 Sep - 7 Oct.

Featuring Alyson Bell, Katherine Boland, Heather Burness, Katie Harris-MacLeod, Catriona Pollard, Rhonda Pryor, Jo Victoria and Liz Williamson.

‘forage: symbiotic (trans)formations’ brings together eight east coast, metro and regional female Artists for whom foraging natural materials is at the core of their artistic practices. The Artists introduce fresh and original methods to conventional artistic mediums such as printmaking, painting, weaving, fibre art, textiles, film, digital AI, ceramics, and sculptural installation. They achieve this by integrating natural debris, saps, pigments, and the surrounding atmosphere.

Open until Friday 18th August …

Was wonderful to return to AD Space Gallery at UNSW Art and Design, Paddington, yesterday to see Jo Mellor-Stuart’s bold and thought-provoking eco-activism exhibition, ‘The Darling Project’, open Monday to Friday, 11am to 4pm.

In ‘The Darling Project’ Jo examines the ongoing environmental crisis in the Menindee Lakes and Darling River region, on Ngiyampaa and Barkandji Country, a result of drought and water mismanagement. The work is guided by the customary knowledge of Ngiyampaa Elder Aunty Beryl Carmichael.

It is a moving multidisciplinary and multifaceted exhibition which traverses Jo’s immersion in the region, exposing the failure of government and corporations to consult with Indigenous groups regarding the environmental crisis.

Jo’s project has traverses four years of intense research, consultation, collaboration and artmaking, which culminates in a rich exhibition presented via textiles, installation, photography and video. The project has involved many Community members including Barkandj Artists Cheryl Bore, Barb Quale and Cindy Bates; Sydney Artists Terhi Hakola, Jenny Tubby and Bernadette Facer.

In 2019, Jo and Bernadette exhibited ‘FLUX’ at White Rhino Artspace.

Whilst on sabbatical, White Rhino Artspace’s Nicole Wallace is curating ‘Embers, Epicorm II’, showing at the Basil Sellers Exhibition Centre in Moruya this coming May to June.

As the second iteration of ‘Embers, Epicorm: Art of the Eurobodalla’, shown at the Incinerator Artspace in Willoughby in July 2022, ‘Embers Epicorm II’ presents the work of seven Far South Coast female multidisciplinary & multigenerational Artists, created in response to the 2019/2020 Black Summer Fires, in the heart of the Eurobodalla Shire.

The exhibition is supported by Create NSW & South East Arts via the Country Arts Support Program.

7pm Acknowledgement and short talk (Katherine Kennedy, Gallery Owner)
7:05pm Acknowledgement of Country (Djuwakan Jeremy Marika)
7:10pm Smoking Ceremony and Procession (Djuwakan Jeremy Marika)
7:20pm Yidaki (didgeridoo) playing supported by dancer Mali (Djuwakan Jeremy Marika)
7:30pm Grab a drink and head upstairs to the gallery to view the Nationwide Curating Group Exhibition and gallery shop

The launch includes artists from Melbourne, Mudgee, Central Coast, Blue Mountains, the Hawkesbury and Sydney who have been listed with Nationwide Curating. This group exhibition also includes newly appointed artists to Nationwide Curating from their collaborative gallery partner, Gallery ONE88 Fine Arts.

Open today! Last day to see TRUST ME by Antony Wettstein

Today, Sunday 11 December: Join us this afternoon and meet the artist at our Finissage Event from 2 to 6pm.

We have had an amazing response celebrating the amazing body of work created by this talented doctor who happens to be my husband. He finally found time to explore his creative side during downtimes enforced by Pandemic lockdowns. Repurposing rusty metal refuse and farm equipment sourced from rural Australia as templates for his work, Antony has developed his own method of dremeling into the unique surfaces of these decaying substrates.

For all you Night Owls out there: Tonight Thursday 8 December is the Opening Event of Antony’s Solo Exhibition TRUST ME. Join us from 6 to 8pm.

Open now, White Rhino Artspace is excited to present TRUST ME, a Solo Exhibition by Antony Wettstein. With a focus on the associated events the exhibition runs for one week only from Thursday to Sunday 8 to 11 December (Sat closed).

Alternatively, visit the gallery during opening hours or join us at the
the Finissage Event on Sunday 11 December from 2 to 6pm.
