JUNE: Sandby and the Picturesque Landscape
Thursday 25 June, 12 PM

Explore how Paul Sandby shaped landscape through Caesar’s Tower and part of Warwick Tower from the Island (1801), a major watercolour in the Hamilton Gallery collection. This talk examines Sandby’s compositional methods and considers a possible precursor work now held by the Victoria and Albert Museum.

Silk and Sky: Textiles from Central Asia reveals how cloth acts as a language through which histories are carried and continually remade. Through an exploration of richly patterned ikats, embroidered suzanis, and garments, this exhibition traces how identity, craft, and cultural meaning were woven into everyday life across a diverse and historically layered landscape.

Join multidisciplinary artist Emma Armstrong-Porter for a three-hour workshop exploring cyanotype printing, a historic camera-less photographic printing process known for its distinctive blue tones. Participants will learn the fundamentals of this technique before creating their own unique cyanotype prints using sunlight or UV exposure. Each attendee will leave with handmade prints using premium materials and fine art paper. Tickets available at reception or via Eventbrite - Don't Miss Out!

Emma “Ruby” Armstrong-Porter is an emerging artist and educator based on Dja Dja Wurrung Country. Often employing an auto-ethnographic perspective, their art discusses mental illness, environmentalism, and human connectedness. Armstrong-Porter co-founded NOIR Darkroom, a photographic darkroom and gallery in Naarm/Melbourne, and has exhibited widely since 2010.


In this three-hour workshop with multidisciplinary artist Emma Armstrong-Porter, learn cyanotype printing and create your own unique prints.
