The Hamilton Pastoral Museum was successful in the latest round of the Southern Grampians Shire Council's Community Partnership Grants Program, receiving $2,432.16 to protect and preserve historic Western District wedding dresses and other garments.

Over the years, the Hamilton Pastoral Museum has been gifted historical wedding dresses and other garments from the early settlers of Hamilton and the surrounding regions.

These items are unique and valuable in the documentation of our domestic and pastoral history.

They form a part of the Museum's collection that is used for display rotation for the Pastoral Museum's Open Days, regular visitors to our region and and for educational and research purposes.

To preserve antique clothing for future generations, they require careful storage.

The Grant from the Southern Grampians Shire Council's Community Partnership Grants Program will be used to purchase long-term presentation archival boxes to store these historic items of clothing.

Only by using the correct and industry standard museum archival products and procedures, will these valuable examples of a bygone era be preserved for future generations.

Some of these historic items have, over time, become quite fragile and we must act now, before these examples of past life are lost forever.

The Hamilton Pastoral Museum called for 100 Caterpillars to attend the 1925 celebration of Caterpillar's 100-year anniversary - and 136 turned up!

A highlight of the event was the Saturday evening keynote talk by Martin Mibus from Mibus Bros, Portland.
