CHARITY FLIGHTS SUCCESS (Part 2 of 3)

THE ROYAL CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL in Melbourne will benefit as a result of this years (1992) Ansett Australia Good Friday Charity Flights.

The Charity Flights have been operating for seven years (in 1992), and before this year's flights, the airline industry had raised $375,000 for the Royal Children's Hospital Good Friday Appeal.

All staff involved provided their time and talents free.

CHARITY FLIGHTS SUCCESS. Part 1 of 3

THE ROYAL Children's Hospital in Melbourne will benefit by $40,460 as a result of this year's (1992's) Ansett Australia Good Friday Charity Flights.

The airline provided six aircraft at no cost - a Boeing 767, a Skystar A320, three Boeing 737's and the airline's historic restored DC3, VH-ABR - and all staff involved provided their time and talents free.

There were four Melbourne and Port Phillip Bay sightseeing flights and return day trips to Albury and Hamilton, Victoria. VH-ABR made the tourist flight to Hamilton, the birthplace of the Ansett Company, with Ansett Australia Assistant General Manager-Operations, Captain John Dorward, in command.

They show some of the volunteers connected to the 1985 - 1988 overhaul of VH-ABR leading to the test flight out of Essendon to Point Cook for crew endorsement, then a fly past of the MEL maintenance base, and photos at the bicentennial air show Richmond.."

CHARITY FLIGHTS SUCCESS (Part 3 of 3)

THE ROYAL CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL in Melbourne benefit as a result of this years (1992) Ansett Australia Good Friday Charity Flights.

Mobil donated fuel for the flights, and the Federal Airports Corporation and the Civil Aviation Authority waived relevant air navigation and airport charges.

On Good Friday Cherrie Harris, liaison officer for the Uncle Bob's Club, picked up Ansett Group secretary Ray O'Brien from Clifton Hill, where he was collecting for the Good Friday appeal, and they picked up Matthew Neeshaw and his father from McDonald's House and drove them to the airport.

NOW IT'S OFF TO BALI FOR TRIP WINNER.

Mrs Joan Whitaker, of Summit Crescent, Ringwood, Victoria, winner of a trip for two to Bali in a recent competition conducted by Ansett International Travel, carried her entry in her handbag for three weeks before posting it.

Mrs Whitaker was travelling with her husband on an Ansett flight to Perth when she saw the entry form in the seat pocket.

A WET WELCOME.

A GROUP of 27 former Eastwest Airlines technical staff and apprentices who transferred from Tamworth to Brisbane's Eagle Farm Heavy Maintenance Division during January had a warm and stormy welcome from one of Queensland's wettest Februarys on record.

Harry Rowland, Manager of the recently enlarged Heavy Maintenance Department, said these young men had lifted the team to 100 technicians, including 20 apprentices.

THE LARGEST PILOT TRAINING PROGRAM IN AUSTRALIAN civil aviation history has been launched by Ansett Airlines of Australia.

It is the result of the $400 million Ansett Airlines order for five Boeing 767 wide bodied jets, 12 Advanced Boeing 737-200s and four long range Boeing 727-200 jets.

The training program will affect a large percentage of the 800 pilots with the Ansett Organisation.

Ansett Airlines Manager of Flight Operations, Captain Alan James (pictured), said that 210 pilots will be trained over 15 months to fly new Advanced Boeing 737-200 aircraft.

Ansett's Manager of Flying Standards, Captain Mal Wheaton, and its Flight Captain Boeing 737 Aircraft Captain Ted Walters, have been endorsed on the Boeing 737 after flying with Air Nauru.
