The petition of certain citizens of the State of Victoria draws to the attention of the Legislative Council the proposed Nioka Solar Project at Glenrowan West which will consists of 420,000 solar panels on prime agricultural land, alongside and surrounding a landowner’s property only two acres in size. Government guidelines require when identifying suitable locations for large scale solar sites, there be adequate space between facilities to avoid cumulative impacts and have access to main roads. The Nioka Solar Project meets neither.

Within a designated Bushfire Prone Area, the project also includes the installation of a Battery Energy Storage System increasing the threat of catastrophic fires and explosions and the contamination of critical waterways, feeding into the world-renowned Winton Wetlands. These waterways provide vital corridors for species movement from the foothills to the wetland. Proponents of the project claim the site was chosen as it sits within the eastern section of the Central North Renewable Energy Zone (REZ). A proposed REZ zone that was expanded to include this area without any community consultation.

The project would ruin prime agricultural land, threaten critically endangered wildlife, greatly impacting the mental health of residents who fear for the land they love and the way they live.

We have our petition up & running!

It’s simple.. by signing this petition you’re helping to stop the Nioka Solar factory from going ahead.

Established in 1972 by Don and Valda Tibbits, Kellyland Glenrowan has grown to become the longest continuously running Ned Kelly exhibition in the world — and one of the most important collections dedicated to the Kelly story anywhere in Australia.

What began as a small souvenir shop, museum and life-size outdoor diorama of the Glenrowan siege, has evolved over more than 50 years into a true cornerstone of Glenrowan’s history and tourism industry. The original outdoor diorama would later become the famous gunfight scene featured within Kellyland’s animatronic re-enactment of Ned Kelly’s Last Stand.

Today, the museum continues to expand and evolve, now incorporating the remarkable collection of Kelly historian Gary Dean — bringing together decades of research, artefacts and historical material under one roof.

Over recent years, great care has gone into preserving, restoring and professionally displaying the collection to ensure these important pieces of Australian history are presented with the respect and significance they deserve.

Featured items within the collection include:

- Joe Byrne’s shotgun
- Kelly Gang wanted poster printed on waterproof cotton.
- Sergeant Kennedy’s hitching post
- Bar from the McDonnell’s Tavern
- A vast and rare collection of Kelly and bushranger books
- Historic photographs, memorabilia and research material connected to the Kelly outbreak

Many visitors travel far and wide to experience the museum, with the collection itself having served as valuable primary source material for ongoing research into the Kelly story and colonial Victoria.

More than a museum, Kellyland stands as a living part of Glenrowan’s identity — preserving the story, the artefacts and the atmosphere of one of Australia’s most legendary historical events for future generations.

As a unique, privately owned museum in Victoria’s North East, we’re proud to help preserve an important piece of Australian history.

Such is life.
