🎉 Tonight on Nine and 9Now! 🎉

Western Australia is taking over the screen at 8.30pm this evening, for a massive one-hour Explore TV special, and we are absolutely thrilled to be a part of it! 📺✨

Featuring Tourism Western Australia’s Dream Ambassadors, they journey across our incredible state showcasing a number of hidden gems with Fremantle Prison making an appearance!

It was a pleasure hosting the wonderful Amberley Lobo, the Guru Productions crew & Tourism WA during their Fremantle stop.

A huge thanks to our tour guide Glenn, who shared the sites history & incredible stories with Amberley.

Don’t forget to tune in tonight...8.30pm…channel 9.

This National Reconciliation Week, Fremantle Prison reflects on our shared history and the role we play in reconciliation.

Standing on Walyalup, Whadjuk Noongar Boodja, we acknowledge the Noongar people and pay our respects to Elders past and present. We recognise the profound and lasting impact the Prison had on Aboriginal peoples and communities across Western Australia, and the enduring trauma that continues today.

This year’s theme, “All In,” calls on Australians to commit to reconciliation every day. Fremantle Prison recognises the cultural and historical significance of Aboriginal incarceration, displacement, and lived experiences, and is committed to ongoing learning and action.
Through our work with the Wirrin Yira Koorl (Up Spirits Go) Aboriginal Heritage Steering Committee, our team is guided to share these important histories with respect, care, and cultural integrity for the wider community.

We would like to acknowledge and sincerely thank the members of the Steering Committee (pictured) for their continued commitment, guidance and generosity in sharing their knowledge.

We sadly farewell one of our most passionate and enthusiastic Tour Guides, Mannie, who was released from Fremantle Prison on the weekend after nearly seven years of delivering engaging tours.

Mannie’s father was a Prison Officer at Fremantle Prison when Mannie was born and as a result, she spent the first year of her life in the convict-built warders’ cottages in Henderson Street, Fremantle.

Mannie always felt she had her late father looking out for her every time she stepped into the Prison.

We hope you’ll join us in wishing Mannie all the best as she enjoys her retirement.
