The Anglican Chapel is a significant location in the centre of the Main Cell Block of Fremantle Prison; the only place on site without bars on the windows, providing a view to the outside world.
Most of the pews used in the chapel are from the modern prison era, constructed in Fremantle Prison’s Carpenter’s Workshop of felled Jarrah from Pardelup Prison Farm in Mt Barker.
The pews have wear and tear from decades of use and are gradually being stabilised by a local furniture restorer Marco Pansini at Woodism .
One at a time, the pews are taken apart, the joins and painted surface cleaned and sanded, the Jarrah replenished and all components refit together with adhesive, longer hardware and multiple coats of wax and oil to ensure stability whilst being used for at least the next fifty years.
