Artist description of this piece:
"This wonderful and prolific fungus, Trametes versicolor, is commonly known as the turkey tail mushroom. It gets its name from its thin, fan-shaped shelves, which display colourful concentric rings that resemble the flared tail feathers of a wild turkey. This fungus is an important forest recycler and is known as a white-rot fungus, meaning it can break down lignin—the tough compound found in trees that gives them their rigidity."

We are always so excited for our annual collaborative exhibition with Bellarine Landcare! This year is celebrating the beauty, mystery and ecological importance of fungi - nature’s great recyclers and the remarkable “Third Kingdom.” Neither plant nor animal, fungi form vast underground networks, nourish ecosystems and make life on Earth possible.
From delicate mushrooms to intricate mycelial webs, this exhibition showcases creative responses that reveal this hidden world and the essential role fungi play in sustaining us all.
This piece titled "Fungi, Flora, Fauna - The 3 Kingdoms of Nature" by Kate Simpson welcomes you into Gallery 1, with thoughtfully repurposed objects, beautiful organic elements, and a cute little friend perched atop his mushroom throne.
