MEET THE MEMBER | Rosalie Rose | Maker Member of Craft + Design Canberra
Rosalie Rose is a textile artist. Her creative life prioritises the processes of slow stitching and botanical dyeing, creating large handstitched artworks, talismans, baskets and garments. Rosalie holds stitching and dyeing workshops for children and adults and has both past and forthcoming solo exhibitions of her slow stitched pieces.
'Creative inspiration arises from nature, from Mother Earth. Natural fibres and fabrics, shells, stones, and plant pigments resonate with me on a creative level, serving as both material and muse.'
‘Currently, I am exploring the idea of ‘home’ as both a physical place and an inner sanctuary. By using motifs that conjure shelter and the repetition of hand stitching I am reflecting on feelings of inner alignment, belonging, and connection to nature. This exploration is essentially a coming back to oneself.’
'Through the work I create, I seek to establish a connection between material, maker, and viewer where the relationship between the contemporary inner experience and something ancient is honoured.'
Rosalie has an upcoming exhibition, earth + sea, with Member Anna Williams at Strathnairn Arts from 25 August to 20 September 2026.

EXHIBITION NOW UNTIL 12 SEPTEMBER | Vessels of Dialogue by Sarit Cohen
See the works in person and visit the Craft + Design Canberra Gallery, open noon to 4pm Wednesday to Saturday. Our Shop + Gallery are located upstairs in the North Building, 1, 180 London Cct, Canberra ACT 2601.
LEARN MORE | About the Exhibition
Vessels of Dialogue is an exhibition of ceramics exploring architectural moments shaped by the artist's memories.
Influenced by a nuanced understanding of the Bauhaus and the Decorative Arts movement of the early 20th century, the exhibition features whimsical sculptural vessels and objects.
Beguiling forms made from delicate porcelain clay draw the eye to ‘lines’ that both reinforce the linear rhythms of the forms or conversely subvert their practicality.
The use of a minimal palette, a reduced colour scheme and simple shapes offer a sense of calm and serenity.

EXHIBITION NOW UNTIL 12 SEPTEMBER | Fragile Structures: The Architecture of Decay by Fran Romano and Madeline Cardone .cardone
This exhibition is a collaboration between visual artists Madeline Cardone and Fran Romano. Working in glass and ceramics respectively, the artists share an overlapping conceptual and material language. Both are fascinated by the built environment, exploring ruins, decay, voids and architectural phenomenology through the deconstruction and reconstruction of space. They share a common cultural heritage that informs their practices and strengthens this collaboration.
Both artists have recently been exploring abstraction of form and space in a sculptural context. Ceramics and glass have common material properties, and both artists work in processes that seek to highlight and challenge the dualities inherent in these materials, notions of strength, fragility, permanence and transience. They explore the qualities of each material that are unexpected, highlighting the process of discovery in the outcome of the works.

ARE YOU OUR NEXT TREASURER? | Applications close 5pm Thursday 10 September 2026
Craft + Design Canberra is looking for a Treasurer to join our Board of Management.
The Treasurer holds specific responsibility for the financial health of the organisation, working closely with the Chair, the CEO and Artistic Director, and our accounting firm. The role suits someone who enjoys applying financial expertise in a creative setting, and who finds satisfaction in translating numbers into decisions that a board of artists, designers and community members can act on with confidence.
You will join a collegial and engaged board at a busy and expansive time for the organisation, with the 2026 Craft + Design Canberra Festival running from 5 to 15 November and a new strategic plan guiding our growth.
