In 2027, Canberra Glassworks turns 20.

We've been quietly working toward something that will mark that milestone and honour everything Klaus built here.

We're workshop swinging 👀

Led by Harriet Schwarzrock, David Cooper and Robert Schwartz, this masterclass offers a rare opportunity to learn from practitioners who are actively pushing the boundaries of illuminated glass.

🔥MASTERCLASS
Neon Playground: Hotshop Edition
Tue 13 to Sat 17 Oct

Participants will work with hand-pulled tube produced in the Hotshop, and gain insight into how soda-lime glass behaves differently from standard neon tubing. Through demonstrations and hands-on exploration, the workshop will engage with bending and shaping processes while incorporating unique colours, optic mould textures, and more complex patterning not possible in contemporary neon tube.

Due to high demand and limited places, participation in this class is by application for intermediate and advanced artists with previous experience in either glassblowing or neon bending. Bursaries are also available on application

Applications are due by 1 August 2026

A Glassblower’s Review of Melbourne Design Week

While at Melbourne Design Week, Glassworks’ Jacqueline Knight attended as many shows as humanly possible within two days. Including April Phillips’ opening Cry with Me, where the final product was showcased in an “amazing and stunning display.” Then she spent some time with Alison Page, who many of you may know, we are developing a future commission with. These were the main highlights of her trip of course; however, she didn’t stop there.

She managed to catch several Glassworks’ friends and exhibiting artist alumni. Whether at openings or finding their works scattered across town, including Tom Fereday, Jordan Benson and Bronte Cormican-Jones. Then, the fabulous works that were by Madi Cardon, Martin Thompson, and Billy Crellin.

With a break from the making and a couple of days full of design, Jacqueline got to focus on the outcomes of our work here at the Glassworks. All while being able to immerse herself in the kind of relationships and conversations that are incredibly valuable to the long-term growth of our programs and partnerships.

Now, if you’re still crying over missing this year’s Melbourne Design Week, make sure to reach out to Phillips

Everybody's talking about Kirstie Rea ✨

Our local star flew over to Singapore last week with Liam Fleming for the announcement of the 2026 Loewe Foundation Craft Prize. Since then, everybody who's anybody has had something to say about our Finalists.

"Rea created an undulating form that balances firmness with breathtaking fragility. The piece translates the vulnerability of our natural world into a tangible object." - Vogue Australia

NATION OF MAKERS ❤️‍🔥 Have you lodged your submission??

It's the final week for submissions to the National Cultural Policy.

We're calling for proper recognition and investment in Australia's craft and design sector, skilled designers and makers working across this country who deserve a policy framework that matches their contribution.

‼️Make a submission before this Sun 24 May‼️

See nationofmakers.com.au for more info on how you can submit

👇What is the National Cultural Policy?..
The Australian Government’s national cultural policy is the first comprehensive policy in over a decade. Titled 'Revive: A place for every story, a story for every place', it sets a five-year framework to rebuild, revalue and grow the arts sector across all areas, including film, music, performing arts, literature, visual arts, craft and design. It operates at a national level, shaping agencies like Creative Australia
