“In Canberra there were definitely no constraints… I had a sense of infinity.”

A new feature in Art Almanac reflects on Enrico Taglietti’s life and work through a striking 1979 photograph by Ted Richards, now on display in Taglietti: Life in Design.

Captured in his Canberra studio, the image offers a rare glimpse into Taglietti’s creative world—surrounded by drawings, models, family photographs and the objects that shaped his thinking. It’s one of many moments in the exhibition that reveal the depth of his practice and the life behind the buildings.

With more than 40 projects across Canberra, Taglietti helped define the city’s architectural identity. This exhibition brings that legacy together for the first time.

Read the story in Art Almanac | https://www.art-almanac.com.au/ted-richards-enrico-taglietti-in-his-studio-1979/

It's this transformative exhibition's final days. Closes 3 May. Don't miss your chance to see it.

What a day.

Yesterday, Canberra Quilters turned Civic into a moving, living exhibition. Quilts came off walls and out of homes, worn and carried through the city, sharing fifty years of making with everyone who stopped to look, ask questions or walk alongside.

Thank you to everyone who took part. The quilters who showed their work, the friends and families who came along, and the many people who took the chance to connect. It was a reminder of what this community has built over five decades. Skill, generosity and a genuine openness to sharing it with others.

If you missed it, you can still experience the exhibition at Canberra Museum + Gallery.

Today marks 100 years since the birth of Enrico Taglietti.

Few architects have left such a distinct mark on Canberra. From the Apostolic Nunciature to Dickson Library and Giralang Primary School, Taglietti helped shape the look, feel and character of this city through buildings that are bold, sculptural and unmistakably his.

Enrico and Franca Taglietti arrived in Canberra in 1955, at a moment when the national capital was still becoming itself, bringing with them a vision of architecture that was deeply human. Light, landscape, geometry and movement mattered. His buildings shape experience, drawing people through space and into a closer relationship with light and the landscape around them.

A century after his birth, Enrico Taglietti’s presence is still felt across Canberra in the spaces he imagined and the ways he helped define the city around us.

On now at CMAG, Taglietti: Life in Design celebrates Enrico’s life, work, and enduring impact. Final weeks, closes 3 May.

A work like this transforms a collection.

Wool Clip was created in 1995 in the final decades of Rosalie Gascoigne's life and practice, when her work had become distilled, luminous and unmistakably her own.

Made from weathered timber marked by use, labour and time, it carries the textures of this region and the clarity of the landscape she knew so intimately.

For decades, Canberra Museum + Gallery has told the story of Canberra through the artists who shaped it. Yet until now, CMAG has never held an original work by Rosalie Gascoigne.

Supporting this acquisition means helping us care for an important work of art in the city that formed it and ensuring it remains accessible to the public for generations to come.

If you are able, please consider making a donation to support the acquisition of Wool Clip (1995). Donations over $2 are tax deductible.
